Last Thankful Post

I am writing my last Thankful Post today.

I am thankful for family in warm locations for me to visit. :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend...I'll probably be too busy to write...

Until next year!

See you then!

Dog Sitter

Today I am thankful to a friend of mine who will be watching Oscar for me for a few days very soon.  I know that Oscar is going to get a lot of attention and love while we are apart...probably more than he has had at home lately.

I know he is in good hands, and watching a dog is not an easy job.  I sincerely appreciate it. :)

Just in case I get too busy this weekend....MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hilarious Bloggers

Today I am thankful for bloggers, for giving me something new to read.  I do love reading blogs, especially funny ones.  I wish I was a bit funnier so that I could amuse my audience as well.

Today I read this:

http://www.rantsfrommommyland.com/2011/12/elf-on-shelfyear-round-and-with-teeth.html

And I laughed, and laughed and laughed.  Mostly because I have seen the Honey Badger video and thought it was pretty funny.  Want to see the Honey Badger video?

Honey Badger Video

It's pretty hilarious, there are swear words, so keep the volume on low if you don't want anyone to hear it.

Okay, so back to the blog post.  Basically, the end of the post states something about "using fear to control our children's behavior."  And, um, isn't this what ALL parents should be using??  Isn't this what I grew up with?  Yes, we wanted to please our parents and make them happy but weren't we also AFRAID of consequences?

Anyway, we won't be doing the "Elf on a Shelf" in our house.  First of all, it's commercialized and I'm mad that I didn't come up with it first. :)  Second of all, I want good behavior ALL year long.  Not just at Christmas.

Now I need to go find my Honey Badger Fairy.

And oh yeah, today I am thankful for bloggers.  To my blogger friends, you know who you are, THANK YOU. :)

Tangled!

Today I have had the songs from the movie Tangled stuck in my head.  I may need to get myself a copy of that soundtrack.  Zoe and I watched it together last night, she actually watched some of it.  For me, it was my second time watching it.

I think I can make it official.  Rapunzel is my new favorite Disney Princess.  My previous favorite was Sleeping Beauty (Or Aurora, or Briar Rose).

So today I am thankful for Disney (and other animators and suppliers of kid-entertainment) because I cannot wait to share this stuff with my little girl.  The toys, the stories, the movies, the theme parks...I can't wait to be a kid all over again.  I think that's the best part of having children. :)  So I guess I am thankful for children, because then I get to pretend to be a kid all over again.

Holiday Cards!

Today I am thankful for holiday cards.  Or Christmas cards.  Whichever floats your boat.

I LOVE getting Christmas cards in the mail.  Especially if they have pictures.  I don't even care if YOU are not in the picture.  Send me a picture of your kids, or your fur-kids!

Unfortunately, I don't get too many cards.  In fact, I send out almost twice as much as I receive.

BUT...much like Santa Claus, I have a list.  I have been keeping track of who I send cards to and who sends them to me for the past three years.  Here is my proposal.  Support the post office!  (my uncle works there!) and send me beautiful (photo) Christmas cards.  You are guaranteed to get one back.  But if you don't send me a card...you may be added to my naughty list!

You might not get one this year, because I only ordered 25 of them.  BUT..if you send me something this year, you will be included on my list for next year!  And next year will be a family portrait!

So today I am thankful for Christmas cards.  I LOVE getting stuff in the mail (it's way more exciting than email, though I like emails too) and I love seeing the pictures or even just the fancy cards.

By the way, today is the LAST day to mail something and have guaranteed Christmas delivery.

Football!

Yesterday I was thankful for football!  My family enjoys watching this sport and it brings us together to watch our favorite team win. :)  Yep, we won, that does help us enjoy the game.  ;)

We also had some friends over and we made a whole bunch of junk food!  I'm pretty sure I gained three pounds in one day.  At least I feel like I did.  I would say that I will be "good" all week and make up for it, but I'll be honest, I now need to eat all the leftovers! :)

So today I am thankful that I have leftovers for the week so that I don't need to cook (haha, I'm funny...Anthony does all the cooking!) and that I don't need to go to the grocery store.  MMmmmm....chili! :)

Okay, I'll start dieting again next week.  I do get that Bodybugg back next week!

Thankful for my Childcare Provider

Today I am thankful for the woman who takes care of my baby while I go to work.  It isn't just her, her whole family helps.  Zoe loves to go to her house and I know she is in good hands!

Speaking of hands, I am also thankful because I am apparently TERRIBLE at trying to make Zoe's handprints for Christmas ornaments:

I don't know why, but this is the best picture I can upload.  Computer is acting funny.
Anyway, as you can see, my attempt at making Zoe's handprints are terrible.

Now compare, to an expert:

MUCH better. :)

But I am not just thankful for my childcare provider because she makes me arts and crafts with my baby, it's because she has helped us with raising our baby too.  If it weren't for her, I don't think Zoe would hold the bottle by herself.  And lately, we have finally gotten Zoe to drink some juice!

(We were going to avoid juice, but we can't, blah blah, I'll explain another time.  Don't worry, it's diluted with water.)

It's nerve wracking and stressful to find someone to watch your child while you are at work.  It's great when you find someone you like, can trust and also helps raise your child with you.

Thankful

I'm just so thankful in general today.  Thankful for the good life that I have.  I am a very lucky and fortunate person.  I want to "pay it forward" and I would like you to do the same.

I am a believer in karma and what goes around comes around.  Today I am going to do a few things to help others out, not just in the Christmas and Holiday spirit, but because I am so thankful for the extraordinary life I lead.

Where did all of this come from?  From writing what I am thankful for the past few weeks.  It has really opened up my eyes to the very good life I am lucky to lead.  Instead of writing each and every little thing today, today I am thankful in general.  (I'll get back to specifics this weekend and next week!)

BUT...for today...please help me pay it forward.  If you haven't done any charitable giving yet this year, why not find a local charity that needs help.  I know today it was announced that in some states, they have not met their local need for Toys for Tots.  Have fun!  Go shopping, purchase some toys and make a kid's Christmas come true!  Try to check with your area to see what age range they need, a lot of young children and older children like teenagers get missed. :(

Do you know someone who needs a little help this year?  Maybe you can do something to help them out!

Some people may ask, what is the purpose of life?  Why am I here?  You don't have to be the President or a Celebrity or a Nobel Peace Prize winner to make a difference.  Sometimes, our only purpose to being here is to make someone else happy.  (and that in turn will make you happy!)  You never know how your smile at a stranger or a child may have changed their day.  Or how holding the door for someone may have changed someone's perspective.  Maybe your only purpose is to love someone.

So today...please pay it forward.  I want to spread all this good feeling I am having.

Enough philosophical stuff.  For all you slackers, today is free shipping day!  Lots of retailers participating!

Thankful for Slate?

I read a popular website called Slate.  I enjoy a lot of the articles and the biggest reason I enjoy them is because they don't always write about the popular opinion.  They aren't afraid to get all controversial on us.

So today I am thankful for this great article on why Scrooge is a great guy. :)

http://www.slate.com/articles/life/holidays/2004/12/what_i_like_about_scrooge.html

Did you know that my favorite holiday special is also The Grinch Who Stole Christmas?

You're a mean one...Mr. Grinch....

My husband can cook.

Lucky me, I have a husband who cooks.  He doesn't just make a sandwich, he is like my own personal chef!  (Now I just need a maid too...)

He makes a lot of food from scratch and he generally makes very healthy choices.  He likes to mix it up too, so I have tried a lot of things I never thought I would eat before.  So am I thankful he can cook?  You bet!

Today I am thankful that he made some veggies the other night.  Spinach, red pepper, mushrooms and I'm sure there's some other stuff.  Must be a spicy pepper too because it was spicy.  And I got to eat this with my lunch today.  So today I am thankful for my husband making such wonderful meals so that I could eat a lot of veggies today.

I'm pretty sure it's the butter, but normally I wouldn't eat mushrooms. :)  Mmmm, veggies with butter!

Yesterday....

I went to Edaville Railroad with my sister and Zoe.  We had a WONDERFUL time.  You wouldn't think a baby could enjoy something like that, but she stared at all the lights in wonder and even enjoyed getting a jingle bell from Santa.

So yesterday I was thankful that I now have a baby and can get away with doing kid things that I have wanted to do for years anyway. :)

TODAY, I am thankful that there is a thing called the internet.  Where I get to share my thoughts with you and I get to share.....PICTURES!  I have updated Zoe's picture website.  Do you need the website?  Do you need the password?   Send me a message and I will get that information to you.  Wait, you don't know how to reach me?  Try someone you know, who might know me or know someone who knows me.  Are you a complete stranger?  Introduce yourself! :)

BGMC - Holiday Concert

Tonight I was thankful that Anthony and I are fortunate to know people who would like to babysit for us.  We got to go into the city to see a show and then we went out to dinner after.  We didn't plan on going out to dinner, but we were basically told to stay out late and enjoy our night.  So we did!  It was a date night!  And we hadn't had one since we went to see the Lion King two months ago, so it was VERY nice.

THANK YOU to our babysitters.  We saw a wonderful holiday concert and had a great dinner at a famous chinese restaurant.  We even got a Mai Tai for two with a souvenir glass.  And when we returned to pick up our baby, we were told to go out more often. :)  How lucky are we?

So tonight I am thankful for babysitters who love our baby like grandparents.  We even call them Grammie and Grampa anyway. :)

What show did we see?  We saw the Boston Gay Men's Chorus.  It was a GREAT show.  I highly recommend to go see it if you have the chance.  Only a few more dates left.  This hall had great seating, seriously, not a bad seat in the house, don't be afraid to buy the tickets in the back if that is all that is left.

You can buy tickets here:
https://bgmc.secure.force.com/ticket#details_a0OF0000003M3TBMA0

And learn more about the chorus here:
http://www.bgmc.org/

I am not posting tomorrow because I want everyone to see this post and go buy tickets to this concert. :)

So what am I thankful for tomorrow?  A few things, but I will leave you with this.  I'm thankful that my friend TC FINALLY listened to me, auditioned for this chorus, and joined.  Because then I was able to get a wonderful date night with my husband and see a friend perform with a professional and amazing singing group.

More on Tuesday!

It's Late, but Today I felt like Santa.

Today I am thankful that throughout the past 5-6 years, Anthony and I have been very fortunate.  Neither one of us has lost our jobs, or had to worry about how the rent or mortgage was going to get paid.  We are also both lucky to work in jobs that we truly enjoy.

This fortunate situation for us, gives us the opportunity to give back and today we did that.  My mom's group "adopted" four children for Christmas this year, and last night we went shopping for them.  Today I dropped off our gifts to these children.  There were many people participating and I believe these four children will get everything they wished for and needed this year.  I made sure we filled in the "blank" spots on the list.  No one likes to buy the boring stuff like socks and underwear, but we did!  (I also bought a few toys, couldn't help myself.)

I might write more on this subject at a later date.  I have always tried to donate around the holidays, but why not year round?  And my feelings on helping others has definitely changed with becoming a mother.  More on this subject later.

My Baby is not a Picky Eater.

I am thankful that my baby will eat almost everything we give her.  She doesn't turn up her nose.  Well, maybe she does to the carrots I made her.  (she might take after her Aunt who doesn't like cooked carrots!)  I can't even list all of the foods that she will eat, because there are so many!

How lucky am I?  I hope she continues to be a foodie like her dad.  What are some "odd" things that she likes to eat? She eats olives.  And guacamole.  She has even had gazpacho.  (did I spell that right?)

And even Miso soup.

And she eats all the normal stuff too like fruits and veggies and pureed baby food, mum mums, puffs, etc.

A few weeks ago my dad gave her an animal cracker.  She LOVED that.

And apparently she even likes coffee:

I'm kidding!  I'm kidding!  The mug is empty!

Anthony took that picture playing around with a sketching app on his phone.  It does look like she is about to drink his coffee. :)  She is just playing with the mug, no coffee for the baby.  Have a good weekend everyone!

Online Shopping!

Today I am thankful for online shopping and free shipping.  It makes my Christmas shopping so much easier.

Short post today, I'll try to be better tomorrow. :)

Wordless Wednesday, Pictures of stuff I'm thankful for....

More pictures soon.  I'm thankful for my husband, my baby (and my new baby carrier!), our gorgeous little tree and my forgiving, totally patient dog.  He was testing out the pack and play for us.  I don't know if it's funny, sad, or just shows me two kids can fit in there....

I am thankful for dogs. :)

And other fuzzy creatures that comfort us humans.  I am thankful for my dog, who is soft and nice and well-behaved and smart and just all around a great dog.

And I wanted to share this article with you:

Weekend Stuffs

I am really not good at posting on the weekends. :)  I'm just not conditioned to thinking about posting on the weekend.  And I do try to stay away from the computer on weekends as well.

So what did we do this weekend?  Well, to start, on Saturday I was thankful that I got to spend the whole day with my husband and daughter.  We had pictures with Santa Claus and we cut down our tree.  A first for me, I had never cut my own tree before.  Well, technically Anthony cut down the tree, and Zoe and I watched and took pictures.  Pictures?  Yes!  There are pictures.  I'll share them online on Wednesday I think.  I want to get a little more decorating done and then I will be happy to show off.

Did Zoe cry when we went to see Santa Claus?  Yes she did.  I think it might have been the beard and glasses that threw her off.  She isn't used to seeing men with glasses and beards.  But we were visiting a really nice Santa and he was patient and kind.  He took the time to "make friends" with Zoe, and eventually she was comfortable.  So I think we got some great pictures of her crying and smiling.  We shall see.  I get those in about two weeks!

On Sunday I participated in a local group yard sale.  It was all Mama's from my Mom's group place.  I was thankful to meet some new mom's, maybe make some new friends and I managed to sell a few things too!  But mostly I was thankful to the mama who sold me a brand new, still in the box My Pal Violet at half the retail price!  I'm excited to have this toy for Zoe, as I have heard from so many other parents how much their children love this toy.

So what am I thankful for today?  That it is a nice balmy 58 degrees outside and during my lunch break I took an extra long walk!  That should help keep the weight off....especially with all the tempting candy at my desk...hehe.

Shallow thankful stuff today (and yesterday).

Well, these aren't really that shallow.  But I could choose better things to be thankful about, but this is what I came up with.

As I left work yesterday I realized I hadn't come up with anything yet and I hadn't posted about it.  However, as I got closer to my childcare provider's house to pick up Zoe, I realized I was thankful I got to pick her up and didn't have to drop her off.  I think dropping her off would just be so tough for me!  And how lucky am I that I get to pick her up after work and she is always so happy to see me?
I'm also thankful that it is dark at that time, and so on my way home I get to see everyone's gorgeous light displays.  The people in my area do not fool around when it comes to Christmas lights.

So what am I thankful for today?  That I own a CD player.  I know most people listen to music through their mp3 players or the radio or the computer, but I still like a good (old-fashioned???) cd player.  And SOME people don't have one!  (You know who you are!)

I do have all my holiday music imported into my iTunes library, however I still have the cd's as well.  And today, with my cd player, I'm listening to Vince Guaraldi Trio's Charlie Brown music.

And you can listen to Linus and Lucy (which Zoe used to kick like crazy inside of me when this song came on last year!) right here:

BodyBugg!

Today I am thankful that my mom has decided to let me have my BodyBugg back.  I had been letting her borrow it so that she could try it out and she has decided that she wants to try another product.  Guess what else?  She bought a subscription to the online service, so I get the remainder of that as well!  An early Christmas present, and I am very excited.

If you have been following my blog for a while,  you may remember when I posted about this product before.  If not, you can go read it here:
http://danidoit.blogspot.com/2010/07/bodybugg.html

While this tool isn't necessary to help me lose weight, it is a BIG help for me.  I'm looking forward to shedding some pounds in the new year (I won't see her to be able to get it until Christmas) but until then, it's my goal to lose at least 5 pounds before I get it.  I want to start off on fire!

Anyone else trying to lose weight?  Don't wait until the New Year, start now so that you will "behave" during the holidays.  Allow yourself some indulgence, but do it with just a bite here or a sip there of those favorite "naughty" foods.  Then you will feel "nice".  And isn't it fun to be both naughty and nice?

Woo hoo BODYBUGG!!! :)

(thanks Mom) :)

Ack! So busy!

Yesterday I was thankful that I was so busy from a job that I love and I feel very lucky to have.

Today I am thankful I have a little more time and can tell you about my week last week!

We have had a crazy couple of days.  My house is a MESS.  But I will get to it later.  It's more important to spend time with friends and family then worry about how clean or messy your home is.  I'm trying to keep up, but I felt like the house was just destroyed after Thanksgiving.  It really wasn't, but in my neat freak, weird world, it was DESTROYED.

Ever have toddlers and kids visit?  This was my first real experience with it.  They were generally very well behaved, but at one point when everyone was downstairs eating, I went upstairs..

To find my kitchen floor was covered from one end to the other with toys.  Toys that I hadn't meant to let the kids play with.  All.  Over.  The.  Place.

Lucky for me, I walked into Zoe's room, and I found my 5 year old niece Eliza.  She was a good girl and cleaned up all the toys for me. Phew!  I had my hands full with Zoe at the time, so I appreciated the help.  I didn't want everyone to come upstairs to find the toys all over the place.  I didn't want any of them to break.

I still need to put away all the toys that the kids played with...

So why haven't I cleaned up yet?  Well, I have had a lot going on.  We had a family member pass away, so on Friday I went to Maine and came home last Saturday afternoon.  Then I immediately had to go out to shop for Anthony's cousin's baby shower.  Then Sunday was the baby shower.  But in between all that, I did Black Friday shopping with my sister-in-law on Thursday night, until 3am.  On Saturday night we got a phone call that a friend of ours needed help.  He had hit a deer and his car was likely totaled.  So Anthony went to get him.  And then I forgot that Anthony was having people over on Sunday.  So lots and lots of guests, some unexpectedly spending the night and it was all I could do just to keep up with washing sheets and towels for everyone.

So the house still needs cleaning.  I'll get to it maybe this weekend.  My dad is still in town, I have boot camp tonight, and well, I would rather spend time with my Dad then clean.

Fun right? :)  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I'll find time to unwind later this week.  And after my house is clean.

Saturday and Sunday Thankful.

On Saturday I was thankful for my sister giving me a ride home and saving me from having to drive myself.  It was an hour out of her way to do that for me, and it was super nice.  It gave me the chance to ride with my Dad on Friday as well, so he didn't have to drive by himself.

Today, Sunday, I am thankful for joyous occasions like Baby Showers!  I went to Anthony's cousin's baby shower today and it was nice to see some of his extended family (and of course my very nice in-laws!).  It was great to see people have fun interacting with Zoe.  My husband has a really great family. :)

Tomorrow I will write more about my whole weekend.....I'm so tired!!!

Too busy yesterday to post!

On Thanksgiving Day I am thankful for wonderful in-laws who keep the holidays bustling and happy!

Today I am thankful that I was so busy and had so much work to do yesterday, that I didn't get to sit down for more than 5 minutes and I didn't gain a single pound. :)

Happy Pre-Thanksgiving everyone...

All month long on other blogs and facebook posts and all over the web, people have been writing down something they are thankful for each day.  I like this idea.  I have also gotten a few great quotes from some of these people as well.

So....in the spirit of Thanksgiving, starting tomorrow, I am going to post what I am thankful for each day until the end of the year.  If I skip a day (like the weekend) I'll make up for it.  To quote someone else (I forget who, sorry!):  Let's be thankful before we get merry!

I am going to be thankful and merry at the same time.  My "official" start for the Holiday season starts with Thanksgiving.  That is when I like to start listening to Christmas music, put up the decorations etc.  It will REALLY start for me tomorrow because my nieces and nephew are coming over and they get to open their Christmas presents early because I won't see them on Christmas.  I love watching kids open presents! What fun!

I will try to remember to get online and post my first "I'm Thankful for" post tomorrow.  Until then...

The end of the cleanse.

So I didn't make it to the end.  I gave up on day 6.  I just didn't want to do it anymore and there was no reason to continue except to say that I did it.  And you know what?  It felt good to "quit".  I got what I wanted out of it anyway.  I wanted a jump start on my diet.  And that is what I got.

I remembered what it was like to eat really healthy foods.
I remembered what it was like to really feel hungry again.
And I remembered what it was like to eat fruit and to taste how sweet that fruit could be.

All in all, I feel successful, even if I didn't finish.

And that steak and cheese with peppers, onions, and mushrooms tasted really really really good last Friday. :)

Brussel Sprouts

Did you know that I like brussel sprouts?

I didn't know I liked brussel sprouts.  But apparently I do!  Growing up we didn't eat weird vegetables like brussel sprouts, cauliflower or broccoli.  (I know, these are not weird vegetables.)  We ate carrots, peas, corn, green beans, wax beans and on occasion, spinach.  All from a can.  I will have to let a family member correct me if I am wrong, but those were the ones I could remember off the top of my head while I write this blog post on the fly. :)

So why am I eating brussel sprouts? (by the way, I was having much difficulty trying to find the right spelling of this vegetable, PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.  I even looked it up on dictionary.com and they couldn't find it. odd.)

I am eating them as part of my cleanse diet for 10 days.  I am doing this cleanse not as a way to lose weight, but as a way to rid my body of toxins and to start with a "clean slate" for my diet.  The diet will be the real way I am going to eat to lose weight, which will be pretty much exactly what I did before but with less cheating.  Less cheating because I am not working out as hard as I used to and I don't see myself working out harder in the foreseeable future.  I just can't afford (time or money) to go back to kickboxing. :(

I do miss kickboxing.  sigh.

So anyway, I am doing this cleanse.  I am doing this with the guidance of my health counselor that I worked with before.  We started with a webinar that explained why we were doing this and it was basically a 2 hour biology lesson.  The cleanse consists of supplements and protein shakes (to make up for what we are missing) and slowly removing foods from your normal diet.  Then we have three really strict tough days (hence the brussel sprouts) and then we slowly add foods back in.  The whole process takes 10 days.

Multiple things can happen during this cleanse.  Some people feel lethargic and get headaches.  Some people get more energetic and feel great.  I can report that I have felt both!  What does this mean?  It means that I had some toxins I needed to get rid of (headaches, probably from the non-real food I had been eating) and that I may have some food intolerance (why I feel great now that I am not eating them).

I am not surprised by this.  With my food allergies there is always a possibility that a food in my diet would not be tolerated by my body.  And with all the junk food and processed crap I had been eating, well, there would be my toxins.   So I feel great, today is day 5....only 5 more days to go.  And only 2 more days of the "strictest" part of the diet.

Send me a note if you want more info, I can send you in the direction of my health counselor.  Want to cleanse on your own?  Check out Dr. Oz's website for some great information for yourself.

Or just try day 1, cut out alcohol, sugar, fake sweeteners and all packaged and processed foods.  Bet you will feel better.  And I bet you will lose weight.

On day 1 you also have to cut out any "flesh" foods.  Meat, poultry, fish, etc.  I didn't suggest that because I am a carnivore.  And I want a burger really bad right now. :)

Who am I kidding?

I'm not writing.  We are officially half-way through the month, and it's just not happening.  I'll give it another try some other time. :)

Guess what today is?  It's Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day!  No joke!  I found this quite amusing as I cleaned out the fridge at work just last Friday.  It was quite gross.  There were a few science experiments in there.  I don't think it had been cleaned in at least a year and it really needed it before I went on maternity leave.  Seven months ago.  So I took it upon myself to get the job done.  And now it is clean and beautiful.

Anthony and I also cleaned out our refrigerator at home during our power outage.  It looks brand new. :)
So now you know what to do to clean up and burn some calories today, get cleaning!

Speaking of cleaning and calorie burning....well, calorie burning.

How goes my weight loss?  Well, only one pound down, but I have definitely built muscle as I am getting a lot stronger.  But what I really want to talk about is the cleanse I am doing at the moment. Cleanse?  Yep, cleansing out the bad stuff.  Don't worry, it's healthy, includes lots of fruits and vegetables (including some I have never had before).  I wouldn't be able to do any of those crazy cayenne pepper, maple syrup, lemon juice thingies.  No hard feelings if you have done it and liked it, but that would not be something I could do.

This cleanse is for clearing the body of toxins, almost like starting with a clean slate.  Which is great, because I really need to "start over" on my diet to lose weight.  I spent a year needing to eat loads of calories to grow a baby and provide milk, now I need to remember what it was like to lose weight again.

I will tell you all about it tomorrow.

I want to share!

So yeah...still blogging...and not writing.

But I have a good excuse!  Remember before when I wrote about my weight loss, I discussed the BodyBugg and how much it helped me?
See the post here:  http://danidoit.blogspot.com/2010/07/bodybugg.html

Well, not everyone can afford the BodyBugg.  It isn't cheap.  And well, I miss mine.  Where did it go?  I have let someone borrow it for their own weight loss battle.  I'm hoping it will help them out, as it helped me so much.

But...like I said.  I miss it.  And then I heard about this product:

What is it?
It's a watch, sort of. It's called the S2H Replay.  You wear and it rewards you for exercise.  What kind of reward?  Well, you get codes that you can use at your favorite merchants, like Amazon.com. Or Walmart.  Or Macys.  They have a pedometer than you can use as well.

So I decided to get the wristband.

Why?

Because I got an incredibly good deal.  And you can too!  (do I sound like an informercial yet?)
Make sure you check this out before November 23rd.  (don't worry, I'll remind you....I think, unless I start writing.)

Parents Magazine has one of those "daily deals" type things where you can get one at 50% off!  Only $12.50.  I thought for that price it was worth it to check it out.  I could easily spend more money than that on junk food.  I should warn you that shipping was not cheap, about $6.33 for myself.

Here is the link to the Parents deal:
http://deals.parents.com/deal/4022/1250-dollars-for-one-s2h-replay?cmd=share

So how can you thank me for showing you such a neat product and cool deal?   You can use this link to purchase your S2H Replay, it will help me earn some free points!  THANK YOU! :)

Not blogging is hard!

Okay, so the writing thing is not going well.  Like, at all.  Not writing.  Not a single bit.  I have stories in my head, but when I look at the screen, it just sits there, blank.

I really really really just want to blog instead.  So I will give it a few more days and see if I give up and come back to blogging.  It does seem strange to not tell you about my weekend or to not discuss the latest things about my battle to lose weight.

Does anyone miss my postings? :)

In the meantime, help me, help a friend!  (pretty please?  with sugar and a cherry on top?)
Go to:
http://www.realfarmwivesofamerica.com/2011/11/give-hoot-and-vote-for-these-boots.html

And vote for my friend Marybeth.  Her blog is Alarm Clock Wars and she wants to win a fancy pair of cowboy boots.  Please go and vote for her, she NEEDS new boots.  Like badly.  :)  You can also go to her blog and read about why she wants new boots:

THANK YOU! :)

Two days...no posts.

Okay, so I'm posting today.  But it really doesn't count.
Well, maybe it does.
I'm only posting today to let you know that instead of posting blog posts this month, I am going to write instead.  I originally got into blogging as a writing exercise so that I would someday finish my stories in my head.  So instead of dedicating time to blog posts, I'm going to use that same time to dedicate to my writing.

That is because it is National Novel Writing Month.  http://www.nanowrimo.org/

I will try to check in periodically.

See you at the end of the month!
Wish me luck...I have tried this a few years in a row and have never been successful...haha.

No More Fodder

We got our power back last night!

We didn't even notice at first that the power had returned.  Anthony was outside when he noticed that he could see his shadow (the outside light had come on) and he opened the door and said something to me about the power.  That's when I said "I was wondering what that humming noise was!"  (it was the fridge!)

When we got home from work last night we set out to saving as much of our food as we could.  A lot of stuff in our fridge and a few things in our freezer were given the boot.  Everything in our deep freezer stayed frozen!  (we didn't dare open that up until we got the power back!)  And now our fridge is nice and bright and shiny, because once the power came on and we could see again, we cleaned the you know what out of that fridge and freezer.  We figured we might as well, how often will it be empty anyway?  It now looks brand new!

So last night was Halloween.  Our town has moved it's festivities to next Sunday, which I think is GREAT.  Most (if not all!) should have their power back by then, and I feel like we get to spread out the Halloween celebrating just a little bit longer.  Which means I can dress Zoe in her Halloween outfits for the rest of the week and maybe go find some Halloween things at nice discounts.  But since we got our power back last night AND it was the last day of the month....we had to get our giant 75 pound pumpkin out for Zoe's 7 month old picture.  And oh yeah, we had to carve it and display our jack o' lantern as well. :)

Here it is, I think Anthony is very proud of this pumpkin.

And before we carved a face into it, we did do a picture with Zoe inside of it.

She tolerated the pumpkin long enough for us to get a few pictures.  I have cuter ones than these, again ask me for the website info if you want to see more!

Happy All Saint's Day everyone!

Blogger Fodder

I finished that website for pictures of Zoe.  Send me a note if you want access!

And now I have plenty to write about...(that is why this post is called "Blogger Fodder" I may be able to write about this all week!)

So what's new?  Well, we have been without power since Saturday evening.  We were hit by the "Snowtober" Noreaster.  Fun fun!  We are learning to get around things like running water (we have a well), no heat and no electricity.  So far, it hasn't been all that bad.

Anthony got out some of our giant stock pots and we filled them with snow and put them on our gas stove (yay for lighters and gas stoves!) With the water heating up and our attempt to heat the house with a fireplace, we got the house up to 70 degrees and humid!  (which was great for my head cold that also appeared at the same time as the storm.)   We aren't sure about the fireplace though.  It seems to be just for looks.  It doesn't seem to produce that much heat, but maybe we just don't know what we are doing?  It has glass door things on it and we can't figure out if they are supposed to be open or closed.  If we open it, sometimes we get smoke in the house.  Eventually we will figure it out.

Because we have well water, we were well prepared for drinking water.  We have a few large bottles of water ready for us to drink.  Which is a good thing as we need it for all of us, making formula and Oscar appreciates some drinking water too.

So all we are really living without is the electricity.  Candlelight and firelight is fun, but it was an early bedtime for all of us last night.  Which I probably needed anyway with my head cold.  And even though I'm still waking up in the middle of the night (and Zoe didn't...) I still feel like I got a really good night's sleep last night.  The gentle hum of my neighbors generators didn't hurt either. :)

The only concern I have now, is the food.  We have a deep freezer in the garage, I'm hoping it stays cold enough to keep that food frozen.  And the fridge in the house.  We haven't opened it yet.  But we probably should today to get the food outside in coolers with the snow.

We will probably lose the food in the house.  Bummer.  We had some good food in there.

So the power company says to expect a few days, possibly a week without power!  Wish us luck!

Busy busy!

Super busy, I'm sorry I didn't get to post yesterday.  I have a project I am working on for my family (pictures of Zoe online, special website and password) and it's eating up my free time.

And oh yeah, I'm dieting and exercising like before I was pregnant.  Coming on Monday, some pictures that made me say: "ACK!, get back to your diet!!".

And for now, I want to share this.  Everyone have a good weekend and don't feel guilty about gorging on candy.  Unless like me you are on a diet.  Sigh.

Snack Time

It's almost 3pm.   So what are you thinking about?  I'm thinking about a snack!

Craving something sweet?
Try a sweet fruit like a clementine, or banana or even an apple with some peanut butter.

Craving something salty?
Try a cucumber sprinkled with salt.

Yum!

I would like to thank today's blog post sponsor for saving me from vending machine-itis.
Mr. Clementine.

You were yummy and sweet.

Looking good.

I have had two people point out that I look pretty good in my hot pink outfit.

Want to hear a confession?  I had my husband take about 20 pictures.  And then I picked the best one.  And of course I picked one where I looked skinny!  And had a smile on my face!

Isn't modern technology wonderful?  However, I am curious....I wonder if there is a correlation between the obesity problem in our country and the invention of the digital camera.  After all, it's pretty easy to delete and get rid of a horrible picture of yourself.  (unless someone posts it on facebook, then they own your picture!)

If no one is facing what they actually look like, how do they know what they actually look like?

I think I have mentioned before how when I look in the mirror, I don't see someone who needs to lose weight.  I look at the mirror and I think "hey!  lookin good!".  It isn't until I face a picture of myself that I realize I need to lose some weight.

Just something for us to all think about.

2 miles, I may start doing more.

Anonymous asked on my post last Friday if I got in two miles.  I did!  I actually got in just over 2 miles.  I used an app on my super smart phone and was able to log my walk.  I tried to jog with the stroller, but I found any sort of running while holding onto the stroller very difficult.

BUT...if I decide to bring Zoe with me, I can get the same workout as a run, if I double my distance, with a walk.  So instead of jogging/running 2 miles, do 4 instead.

I went to a little neighborhood behind my house that has dead ends, so there was a lot less traffic.  Using my nifty app on my phone I was able to calculate how many times around the neighborhood was two miles.  This neighborhood also has a few tiny inclines which is just perfect.  And almost every house has an electric fence.  So there are all these dogs sitting in their yards watching me, but staying in their yards.  It's kinda funny to see.  I would take a picture of it, but then I would be a wacko casing the neighborhood. :)

So yesterday I went without Zoe and got in my walk/jog.  I would say I jogged for about 1/3 of the distance.  I was actually VERY impressed with myself.  I have never really done any jogging outside and it has been over a year since I was really running.  Go me!  I bought new sneakers and a bright vest to wear while running and I think that got me motivated.  My sister once gave me the advice of buying new workout clothes to motivate yourself to workout.  Well, I know the sneakers and vest worked for me!  Check me out:

Even Oscar looks impressed! (look carefully, you can see him on the bottom of the picture)  This was taken after my walk/jog.  It felt good to be back out there.  And the bright colors will come in handy when I am out on the road.  We don't have street lights and in the twilight hours I want to make sure I am very visible to the traffic.  I also picked up a blinking LED light that I can put on the stroller.  But don't worry, I won't take her out after dark or even in the twilight hours.

So check out that hot pink color?  Are the 80's back or what?  I saw a girl at Sam's Club the other day.  She was wearing leggings, black boots and an oversized HOT pink sweatshirt.  It actually hurt my eyes to look in her direction.  I'm sure she thought she was trendy.  I thought she was retro. :)  Want to know what's actually in?   Check out my sister's blog.  I asked her for advice on leggings.  I want to wear them so bad, so comfy!  But how do I make that outfit appropriate for work?
http://sparklyengineer.blogspot.com/2011/10/fashion-fashion-fashion.html

And not that I want competition, but I want everyone to check out this blog:
http://www.realfarmwivesofamerica.com/

They are having a contest to win some Carhartt gear.  But the reason I wanted you to check them out is because apparently today is Food Day.  And I think instead it should be Farmer Appreciation Day.  Because if it were not for the farmers, we wouldn't have food.  Check out Marybeth's post about that:
http://alarmclockwars.blogspot.com/2011/10/food-day-2011.html

Wow...huge post today, with links and pictures!  Hopefully I can keep this up all week!

Motivation!

Hey everyone!  I had my second night of boot camp last night.  I walked (or barely managed to make my way) out of there feeling GREAT.  Of course I was sweaty, probably a little stinky and every muscle ached.  But I really did feel good.

I almost felt like I was coming alive once again.  My body DOES remember this stuff and knows what to do.  I just need to get back into it.  For motivation for myself, I went back and re-read all the posts I wrote in the summer of 2010.  It helped me remember what I did before to lose weight and it also reminded me of the good habits I had let go of.

I definitely need to get those good habits back!

So what motivates you?  The other day I read from someone I know "Ain't no motivation like hot guy in the gym motivation!"  Reading that, I cracked up.  So I want to know...how do you motivate yourself?

By the way...what motivates me?  I'll admit it, vanity and a good night's sleep.  When I was working out regularly and eating healthy I had never felt better and I was sleeping better than ever.  So I want a good night's sleep. :)

This afternoon I plan on getting in two miles walking or jogging with Zoe in the stroller.
Happy Friday everyone!

ouch.

Every muscle in my body aches.  I'm pretty serious.  I even have a headache.

Last night I took advantage of the staircase in our house and went up and then down 10 times each.  I also did lunges, squats, pushups and crunches.  And LOTS of stretching.  And oh yeah, jumping jacks too.

My body says "hey! what are you doing?!"  and  "Oh yeah, I kinda remember this."

And right now it says FEED ME.  That's how I know my hard work is paying off, I'm hungrier than I normally am.  An unfortunate side effect of me successfully losing weight is there are definitely times of feeling hungry.
(see my previous posts about this.)

This is because my body is going to fight me tooth and nail to lose any of this weight.

I'm going to win.  Body, you are going to lose...pounds and inches.

Go Dani Go!

A few things.

I wanted to share a few things today.  First off, boot camp last night was great.  It was hard, my muscles are sore, I nearly fell out of bed instead of getting out of bed...but I feel good.  I didn't think I would be able to run for more than 10 seconds, and guess what?  I ran for about five minutes!  Go me!   Looks like my body remembers how to do these things.  I even feel inspired to try running with Zoe in our stroller!

Dani Do It!  I'm feeling strong and confident.

Things I wanted to share.

I wanted you to see this article about Things Your Pet Shouldn't Eat.  Not too many people realize things like onions are not good for pets.  And I didn't know about the last one, Xylitol.
http://shine.yahoo.com/pets/things-your-pet-shouldnt-eat-2581264.html

And I wanted to share this article about Michelle Obama.  I like that she admits her motivation for eating healthy and exercising is vanity.  :)  Isn't that true for most of us?  Hey, I want to look HOT!  Otherwise why would I torture myself with jumping jacks and lunges and squats?  Oh yeah, it's because I gave in to all the crappy junk food.  Hmmm, maybe I should think twice before I do that again.....okay, back to looking good and Michelle Obama, she share some other good advice too:
http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/life/michelle-obama-on-the-things-that-matter-most-to-moms-2588797/

And the last thing I want to share is a really scary experience for a blogger that I read about this morning.  It has me reconsidering my blogging.  I have mentioned my name and my family member's names a few times here.  So while I try to stay anonymous, I'm really not.  The majority of my readers know me.
But because of this woman's experience, I feel like I should maybe go "underground" or stop blogging at all.  The internet is wonderful for sharing our lives, but it also opens us up to some seriously wacko people.
Here is the blog post:
http://www.blogher.com/consequences?page=full

Something like that is just so terrifying.  And also scary?  Reading the comments and reading about other people's experiences, including other people having CPS called on them for their blog posts!  What if I had CPS called on me because of some things I have done for my baby?  I don't think I feel comfortable writing about her anymore.  Or the dirty dishes in my sink.   Because apparently if CPS did show up, I can be cited for dirty dishes.  (that's some motivation to get them done!!)

Stories like this make me want to withdraw, unplug and go move into that log cabin in the woods I have always dreamed about.

No More Junk Food.

Well, no more junk food until I lose the weight. :)

See, my reward at the end will be some junk food.  I just need to decide what junk food will be my reward.  It occurred to me the other day that I got used to eating extra food for my pregnancy and for breast feeding and I never really went back to my diet.

So boot camp starts tonight.  So does my diet.

I have been enjoying everything I won't be enjoying for a while!  Went to Wendy's last night for dinner.  Totally stopped and got an ice cream.  Had a Pepsi today.  Ate some fruit snacks (basically candy!) for a snack this afternoon.   sigh.....it was fun, but it's over for now. :)

Don't worry I will let myself have a treat once in a while.  If I didn't, then I would binge and go crazy.
It's just that I have to get back to my old way of eating if I want all the weight to come off again.

Again.  So frustrating to have lost all that weight just to gain it back.  Well, most.  I lost 30, now need to lose about 15 to get back where I was.

It's partly the baby (so I got something really good for my weight gain there!) and it's partly me (oops, my own fault for not exercising and eating crap).

Wish me luck tonight!

Take a minute. Breathe. Relax.

Every once in a while I will come across something that reminds me I need to sit back and relax.

Stop worrying.

Let the tension go.

Just enjoy the day.

I am going to share an article with you that did that for me today.  Today I will not worry about the dirty dishes or the fact that my baby is waking up at night.  Today I will think about Leontien and what she is about to go through.  Today I will kiss my husband, cuddle my baby and hug my dog.

And I will just enjoy today for what it is.

And maybe make an apple pie.  (hey, it's on my to do list!)

Here is the article.  If you are a parent, you may need tissues.  You were warned!
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/16/opinion/sunday/notes-from-a-dragon-mom.html?_r=1

I think I can take a lesson from this and try to be more of a "dragon mom".  Funny thing...last week I painted a ceramic dragon piggy bank for Zoe.  Coincidence?  Hmmm.

Boot camp starts tomorrow

Boot camp starts tomorrow night for me.  Which means my diet starts tomorrow as well.
It's time for me to reclaim the success I previously had when I lost weight.  Wish me luck!

I didn't get my dessert last Friday.  I might have to make up for it tonight.
I need to get in all the junk I can before tomorrow night! haha.

Busy busy lately, haven't had much time to write.  I'll try to make up for it later.

Happy Monday!

Dessert Day!

Just a quick post...it's been a busy week!

But today is Dessert Day!  So be sure to have your dessert.  (just be sure to finish your dinner first!)

yep...I'm a mom now.

My sister has a blog!

I have mentioned my sister a few times on my blog.  She is an avid reader of my blog and now she has decided to start her own!  You should check it out when you have a moment.  My sister has always been interested in fashion, makeup, and accessories.  In a way that is almost totally opposite of me.  And guess what her blog is about?  It's about all the stuff I have no clue about.  So you can bet I'll be reading it everyday.   Fashion and makeup not your thing?  That's okay, she just posted about decorating as well.  (another thing I have NO idea how to do.)

So go check it out, she's a chemical engineer, so I think her blog is appropriately named.  You really won't meet someone quite like her.  Girly, fashion-forward AND a total nerd.  She would seriously wear some hot pink Barbie heels with her lab coat.  Well, if they allowed heels in that quality-containment thing-a-ma-jiggy that she has to work in sometimes.

http://www.sparklyengineer.blogspot.com/
Ha!  Look at that...her blog is pink! :)  I really shouldn't have been surprised.  So keep up with her blog too for some smart, scientific and fashion forward topics.

I have already promised her that when I reach my goal weight she can take me shopping for my new wardrobe.  But until then I'll stick to my comfy jeans, t-shirts and knit shirts.  (see?  at least I know I have knit shirts!)

Glee!

Thanks to a friend, I was able to catch up on Glee!

Thank you!

And that's all for today folks, I'll write more tomorrow. :)

Still happy.

Have I talked about my insomnia?  I'm still waking up all night.
And the past week Zoe has been waking up at night too.

Plus I gained a few pounds.

BUT....I'm still feeling very good and happy.

Even though my windshield got hit with a big rock and it looks like I'll need it replaced.  Again.  Yep, just had it replaced a few weeks ago.  (sigh)

But I'm still happy.  Life is good.  I feel very fortunate and lucky to be living the life I have.

I wanted to share this video today.  In a world where children have become spoiled brats (please!  let's go back to strict upbringings where kids had respect for adults!) this child is so obviously grateful and humble and good.  At first while viewing, I thought "wow, this is one lucky kid, it's not even her birthday yet and she is getting all these gifts...."  But her reaction at the end .....well, just watch for yourself.

http://comedy.video.yahoo.com/?vid=26859926
I might be happy....but I don't think I'm as happy as she is. :)

Boot Camp!

Remember that whole P90X thing I was talking about doing before?
No?

Check here.
http://danidoit.blogspot.com/2011/09/diet-exerciseblah-blah-blah.html

Well, I did it a couple of times, but things got in the way and I didn't stick with it.  I just haven't been getting the exercise I need.  So this week, I signed up for a boot camp!  This is a "for-mom's" boot camp.  It's geared towards Mama's looking to lose that baby weight.  They have a two-day a week session and a Saturday morning session.  I had originally thought I would just sign up for the Saturday session, but when I chatted with the ladies about it, they convinced me to sign up for two days.  How did they do that?
I found out that Zoe can go with me to the class if I don't have anyone to watch her.  In fact, a lot of the mom's bring their children.

Perfect!  A big thing holding me back from signing up for a class like this was the fact that I would have to count on Anthony being available when I went to class.  Well, this is the real life, we can't always count on schedules and what-not.  So I signed up!  Zoe may or may not attend with me.

Wish me luck!  This I will stick with, because I just paid for it and I don't want to waste my money.  But also because I want to feel better, sleep better and look better.  And I know a bunch of good healthy exercise will help me get there. :)

Happy Friday!

Happy.

I was all set today to write a post about being happy.

Just content.

At ease.  I haven't felt this way in a really long time.  I know I had some baby blues and I have definitely had mood swings.  A new baby and lack of sleep will do that to you.  Isn't it crazy that my baby sleeps through the night but I keep waking up all night?  Yeesh.  (well, except for last night, she woke up last night, but she was cold, so I covered her up, gave her a pacifier, and back to sleep she went.  And I went back to bed where I stared at the ceiling hoping to go back to sleep....)

Okay, got off topic there.  But even with all of that, I just felt purely HAPPY today.

I still do.

Even though I discovered something just now that annoyed me.  There are two shows on the Fox network that I like to watch.  And there was a new one I was going to watch.  Then I got free tickets to a show and I missed a night of episodes.  Then I had a chance at seeing the Lion King the other night (whoo hoo!  It was AWESOME!) and I missed another night of episodes.

No biggie.  I'll just watch them online, get caught up and then I'll be all set to watch my shows this season.

But Fox apparently has other plans.  They now delay your ability to watch a show online by EIGHT days.  Which means it will now be IMPOSSIBLE for me to catch up and watch the shows in "real" time with everyone else.

This is where in my opinion and as it pertains to me.....a BIG mistake.  A giant, HUGE mistake.  Because I don't really watch tv.  It has to be a REALLY good show to hook me.  And I got excited by some television shows coming to us this fall.  And last year I got hooked on a new one.  I actually went from watching no shows, to one show, to two shows last year and maybe even THREE this year.

And they were all on Fox.  So I went from none to three.  Good job Fox!

Except that now you screwed it up.  And if these shows now start to look mediocre, I'll stop watching completely.  (shakes head, shame shame)

NOT too bright.  I can understand delaying the show.  Apparently if you have Dish network you can login and watch them sooner.  So fine, delay the shows 4-5 days.  Not 8.  I can't catch up now.   BOOO!

At least the Vampire Diaries hasn't done that.  They even have the last three from last season still available to watch.  And so far Netflix has been fast enough that I have almost caught up to this season.  Looks like I'm back down to ONE show.

BOOO!

I'm still happy though. :)
Love my life.  Love my husband.  Love my baby.  And especially love my dog, he's so cute.

I Love Bacon.

It's one of the reasons I can't be a vegetarian though I have tried.

Why am I posting, I LOVE BACON?

Well, because I do.  And because this blogger asked me to:
http://jentsfrontporch.blogspot.com/2011/10/for-love-of-pork.html

I had a great girls weekend this past weekend.  My sister and my cousins and I all went shopping.  It was a weekend of candles, tag sales, country stores, candy, and plenty of giggles.  It was a good (but wet, it was raining all weekend) time.

Quote from the weekend:

My cousin:  "It's raining."
Me:  "You just told R___ that she wouldn't melt."
My cousin:  "Yeah, but I'm a little bit evil."

Much much much laughter! :)

Halloween!

Happy Friday everyone!

And yes, you all know me too well.  I do want to be She-Ra for Halloween.  It's also what I wanted to be for Halloween about twenty-something years ago.  And guess what?  I still have my sword from that childhood costume....

We shall see how this goes, I found a gorgeous but expensive costume and I can always just try the t-shirt as well.
Anthony has picked out his costume, and it's on the way.  So now we are left with Zoe and Oscar.  Oscar has a t-shirt that he has worn in the past, it's a dog skeleton costume.  We will probably just go with something like that again.  Now for Zoe?  Well, I wasn't really planning on doing a costume.  She is only six months old and I don't think she would tolerate it for very long anyway.  Probably just long enough to take a few pictures.

However.

We are going to attend a Halloween party.  So Anthony thinks that if we are going to be in costume, that she should be as well.  I explained that we had a Halloween onesie for her.  He said he wanted a costume.  I think the only reason he said that is because I found a very adorable, very trendy costume.  I showed it to him as a joke.  Then he said "I think we should get it in _____."  And I said: "seriously?".  And he said "Yes, if we are going in costume, she should too."

I think he just wants the costume.

So I am not telling anyone...it will be a surprise.  Hopefully we can find it at a decent price..and of course I will post pictures here.  Today is the last day of September...first day of October tomorrow!  I can officially start decorating for Halloween!

Banned Books Week

It's banned books week!

I love to read and so I do enjoy reading all the articles about the "bad" books from the past or even in the present that we should not be reading.  If it's banned....aren't we all just that much more tempted to read it?  Is there anything more fun than reading something you are not supposed to?

My cousin made me some fabric book covers...they are wonderful, because I can read dirty romance novels and NO ONE HAS TO KNOW. :)  I could be reading something totally scholarly and intelligent and stuff.

Nah, who wants to read that?

The e-readers also make our "secret" reading much more fun.

What I have for you today...is a book that I might need to ban from Zoe.  But only because I don't want her to become a spoiled brat.  I hate the idea of banning any book, but the author of this post does make a good point about monitoring the gifts our children receive.

The article is here:

Has anyone guessed what I want to be for Halloween yet?  :)

And in random thoughts, I would look thinner if I could just remember to suck in my gut! :)

And...

...I made some changes.

Happy Autumn everyone!

Can you guess what I want to be for Halloween this year?

Sharing some links today.

Nothing new to write about.  We went and saw South Pacific last night.  It was an okay show.  We enjoyed ourselves, it was nice to have an "adults only" night and free tickets to a show is always nice! :)

I am going to share some links today, both have to do with food.

First up, my favorite food, PIZZA!  This is a link to a youtube video that shows you how a PIZZA MACHINE works.  Yep, it's like a pizza ROBOT. :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_CIJWA0W2U&eurl=unknown&feature=player_embedded&noredirect=1

My second link is more serious, it's to an article about cantaloupes, so if you eat these, please be careful!  Lucky for me, no worries.  I'm allergic to cantaloupes!

Oh yeah, it's Wednesday huh?  I guess I could have done a "Wordless Wednesday" post and put up some pictures?  Maybe I will do that tomorrow.

Feeling Lucky.

I'm feeling lucky the past few days.

On Sunday Oscar got first place in the pet trick contest.  I also entered some raffles that day, and yesterday I got a phone call that I won a raffle!  So Oscar gets some free dog toys!

I also was given some free tickets to see South Pacific at the Opera House!

So last night I went out and bought a lottery ticket and a scratch ticket.  We had received a coupon in the mail to get a free $2 scratch ticket if we purchased a $5 quick pick lottery ticket.  So I bought the lottery ticket and got my free $2 scratch ticket.  I didn't win anything on the scratch ticket.  But I really didn't think I would anyway.

Wish me luck on the lottery!  And then we will move my good luck on to someone else, I can share.  :)

Food, Fun, Friends!

We had a good weekend.  Well, we had a good weekend despite the heat and humidity (ugh! so awful!) and we had a good weekend despite the Patriots losing to the Bills.

We hosted a BBQ on Saturday so that our friends could come visit and see where we live.  We wanted people to see that we didn't go too far away (even though we moved out of state) and that we were now closer to others, now that we lived in their state.   I do love having people over and hosting parties, but I think now that I would prefer to have over smaller groups of people.  I feel like I didn't get to give everyone the one-on-one attention I would have liked to.  When you are hosting the party, prepping food, making food, cleaning, pouring drinks, directing people to the bathroom....and oh yeah, taking care of a baby too....you just don't have the time for fun and socializing like you want.   Plus we are getting old...our party ended way earlier than I thought it would. :)

So look for invites to visit us again, this time in smaller numbers. :)

On Sunday, the pet food store we are now using to purchase Oscar's food was hosting a Customer Appreciation Day.  There were balloons, clowns, food distributors, shelters, vets and raffles and activites.  I took Oscar over and I entered him in the "cool pet trick" contest.  There were a few good competitors there, and I didn't think we would win......but we did!  Oscar took first place and got a bag full of treats and toys and a gift certificate to the store!  I was very excited and happy for Oscar.  Plus it was nice for Oscar and I to spend some one-on-one time together.  He doesn't get as much attention from me now that we have the baby, and I need to make efforts to make sure we do.  I need to reinforce his training.

So what did Oscar do to win?  We went through a few of this commands, but I think the ones the judges liked best was his "dancing" and when he jumped into my arms on command.  He also did a little kissing up by going to each judge after his tricks to be petted.  He likes dog treats, but prefers the love. :)

Happy Monday everyone!

Contests!

Remember back when I had a contest on my blog?
http://danidoit.blogspot.com/2010/12/weight-loss-then-pregnancy.html

I had referenced a Disney movie from my childhood and I asked my readers to guess the line and where it came from.  I had a winner too! (http://danidoit.blogspot.com/2010/12/winner-and-more-facebook-grumbling.html)

The original prize I wanted to get was unavailable, so I went out and got another prize.  And FINALLY, almost 9 months later...I was about to see the winner tomorrow!  But no such luck, she is not feeling well and won't be able to make it.  Bummer.  I hope she feels better soon!

What did she win?
http://www.amazon.com/Lady-Tramp-Disney-Little-Golden/dp/030700113X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316796282&sr=8-1

I thought the book was appropriate since the movie quoted was Lady and the Tramp and she now has a little girl and she can read the story to her little girl.  I also got one for my little girl.

I think I will do another contest sometime soon.  I want to see how many participants I can get!  Now I just need to think what I am going to do and what the prize shall be....hhmmm.

Remember earlier this week when I mentioned that fall must be coming soon?  Turns out it's today!
Happy first day of Autumn!

photo session canceled

Our rescheduled photography session for Baby Z was supposed to be today.  But it's raining all over the place and our session was canceled.  There is no opportunity for a reschedule until perhaps December or the spring.

I'm so bummed.

I'm researching new photographers now, hopefully something will be available in the next few weeks.

Just Playing Around

I'm just playing around with the look of the blog.  This isn't the final look for the fall season, but I will figure it out eventually.  When does Autumn start?  I haven't looked at the calendar, I'm sure it was this week.  It's been freezing cold at night!  I'm not sure how to keep my baby warm enough.  She is not like me, I am always warm.  She is like her dad...always cold.  Looks like lots of layers for her this winter!

So I am trying to keep a simple look on this blog.  I hate when a website is "busy" looking with lots of clutter.  Speaking of which, facebook has made some changes to their stuff which now makes the pages "busier" looking in my opinion.
Wait, did she just say facebook?  We thought she wasn't on facebook?

Yes, that is true.  I am not on facebook.  But my dog has an account.  I was using his account to track down some people before my cousin's wedding.  And then I stuck around because I joined a few local mom's groups.  And before I knew it, some old friends found me through my dog.  And then I was suckered.  I'll have to break off contact soon and head back to google+.  That's because all the real computer nerds are on google+.  And that is where I prefer to be.

Although I'm sure someday I will hate them as much as I do facebook.

oops!

I completely forgot to post yesterday.  I had a busy day and during my lunch break I had to get my windshield replaced in the car.  So that ate up a huge chunk of my "free" time.

I'll try to write more later.

Around the web.

A few stories this week really caught my eye.

There is the story of a bunch of people lifting a burning car off a motorcyclist:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44537027/ns/us_news-life/t/rescued-motorcyclist-recounts-fiery-accident/?GT1=43001

There is this story about Selma Blair, who makes me feel a lot better about my lack of weight loss:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2037777/Selma-Blair-My-body-mess-Jell-O.html

I think it's refreshing to see a Hollywood Mama not rush to lose the weight, good for her!

And last is this incredibly cute video of some grandparents that had a hard time using their webcam to take a picture of themselves.  I just hope that Anthony and I are still that much in love when we are that age....the grandfather here is obviously still bonkers for his wife, very cute!

Old?!

Old is just a number...or a figment of your imagination.  Or it's all just perspective.  My sister had a milestone birthday yesterday and her status message today says "Officially old...".

So my first thought was "Hey!  You can't call yourself old!  Because I am older than you!".

Then my second thought was "Ha...I thought I was old this weekend."

I'll show you what I mean!  Oooh!  Picture time:
This weekend, I saw this great picture of myself and my baby and my first thought was "When did I get old?!"  Can you see those wrinkles/laugh lines around my eyes?  :)  Looks like I should start thinking about anti-aging creams. :)

But it's all in perspective, because when I look in the mirror, I don't see those wrinkles.  I don't even see the extra fat around my waist.  I look in that mirror and on most mornings I think "Looking GOOD!"  I don't do this on purpose or an exercise on improving self-esteem, this is what really happens to me.  I have a distorted view of myself in the mirror....but in a good way.  It isn't until I see a picture of myself that I will nit-pick about what I look like.  I can't be the only one who does this.  But you know what?  I bet everyone else looking at this picture sees a great picture of me and the baby.  They don't pick it apart like I do.

I forget where I saw or read it, but somebody once said something about high-fiving themselves in the mirror.  I think that's a great idea.  I think when you look in the mirror, you should say "Looking good!" and give yourself a high five.  Put on that big smile and go start the day.  And I think we should do the same for pictures.  No matter what our shape, size or age, let's say "Looking good!" and then feel better about ourselves.

Because a good attitude can make anyone look good....after all...I see old, but you all see a happy mom and baby who are both beaming with happiness.

That attitude/mood/smile makes everyone look good doesn't it? :)

Staying Positive.

Yesterday's post was put up kind of late, so either you haven't read it yet or you aren't going to yell at me for trying fasting. :)   If you haven't seen it yet, go ahead and read yesterday's post.

I just want to report that I felt great yesterday and of course I was hungry but I did do it.  Anthony also noticed that I was in a much better mood, though I don't know if that was from fasting or because I got a fancy new hair cut yesterday that included a head massage when I got my shampoo. :)

So on to today's post!  I was inspired by another blog today.  I was inspired by Jent's Front Porch.  She wrote a very positive feel good thing yesterday and now I am going to do the same.

Yesterday...

My house was a mess...
...there are dirty dishes in the sink.
...there are baby things all over the place.
...all of our stuff from this weekend is still scattered and needs to be unpacked.
...and the whole house just needs a good hard scrubbing!

My baby's mirror was covered in beard hairs...

And my weight is well over what it should be.

Yesterday...
My house was a mess because I have a fulfilling life and I keep busy and don't have the time to spend all my time cleaning, because my time is better spent with Anthony and Zoe and Oscar.
There are dirty dishes in the sink because we are fortunate enough to not have to worry about where our next meal comes from and we are fortunate enough to have enough dishes that we don't need to clean them as soon as we are done using them.
There are baby things all over the place because we are blessed with a beautiful little girl who enjoys being with us in whatever room we are in, therefore, her stuff tends to spread out.
All of our things from this past weekend are scattered because we went to a family wedding and had a great weekend and it will take us all week to get settled again because we are fortunate enough to have full time jobs and we enjoy each other's company instead of "working" after work as well.
And the whole house just needs a good hard scrubbing because we would rather spend time together playing on the floor with our baby and dog and go out to dinner together than worry about the dust bunnies in the corner.
And my baby's mirror was covered in beard hairs because my husband was thoughtful enough to shave outside and borrow the baby's mirror, so that the beard hairs wouldn't be all over our bathroom counter which drives me crazy. :)  (Note to self...purchase Anthony his own mirror and thank him for being so thoughtful!)
And my weight is well over what it should be because I had a beautiful, healthy baby girl.

This weekend I was told it's all about perspective and choosing your priorities.  It feels good to put a positive spin on things that drive me crazy.  I need to relax, I hear it all the time.  First I just need to choose my priorities and the rest will work itself out.

So, priorities?  The health and happiness of my family.
Priority number 2?  Hire a cleaning person if we can afford one.  :)

Defending your diet and exercise choices.

Have you ever noticed everyone has an opinion?  :)

Of course everyone has an opinion!  But mostly what I have noticed is that everyone has an opinion on what you do when it comes to diet and exercise.  So people (and I mean myself here) can get really defensive when it comes to their eating or exercise habits.

I have repeated many times in this blog, do what works for YOU.  But even I have judged people's methods, or diet, or exercise.  I'm going to make an effort to stop doing this.  Everyone's body works differently and different methods will work for them.

So why am I writing about this today?  Because I am about to try something that I think people will disagree with and I am going to get defensive about it.  I am considering trying the Eat Stop Eat method of eating.  Basically this is a fasting plan.  Or as some people have already called it.....you are starving yourself?

No.  I am NOT starving myself.  I am eating every day.  But I am going to try fasting to reduce my caloric intake.  A big reason I want to try this is because I am not very good at portion control and I don't have as much time as I used to for exercise, so I feel I need to really focus on how much I put in my mouth.  This is basically what people who get the lap band or stomach surgery do as well.  They are forcing themselves to EAT LESS.  Which will help anyone with weight loss.

In order to lose weight, you need to burn more than you eat.  Or you need to stop eating more than what your body actually needs!  With my previous methods (where I lost 30 pounds) I was already fasting.  I was fasting from my last meal of the day (5pm-ish) until the morning when I had breakfast.  About 6am or 7am.  And on some weekends that would be 8am or 9am.  So I was fasting anywhere from 13-15 hours each day.  So this is my plan, I will continue to fast in this manner, but on the Eat Stop Eat, you go for a longer time period and you do it twice a week.

Want more info?  Think I'm crazy?  Leave me some comments... :)

And of course try to eat as all natural and protein and blah blah blah....don't forget what ALSO worked for me was also eating full fat greek yogurt, whole milk and butter.  And I definitely got some opinions on that.

Back in the saddle!

So today is DAY ONE of my continuation to lose weight.

I began this journey back in January of 2010 and was very successful.  Until I found out I was pregnant, and I had to stop.  I did well during my pregnancy, only gained what I needed to.  After my pregnancy, I looked great!  But....since then, I have gained 7-10 pounds.  :(

My cousin got married this past weekend and it was beautiful.  However...looking at the pictures from the wedding I am very disappointed in myself.  I have "let go" and have not worked hard to keep my weight off.  I have used excuses like family obligations, vacation and baby.  I need to get back on this journey.  I look at pictures of myself from three weeks after the baby was born...and you know what?  I looked GREAT!  Now, not so much.  It's amazing the difference 5-10 pounds can make on just what your face looks like.

SO.  TODAY.  I get started again!  I will stop the decline and get back up hill (because weight loss really is an up hill battle!) and I will find ways to get this weight loss going again.

Anyone else with me?  Leave comments here so we can support each other!
Back to p90x tonight!

Subway? Eat fresh?

There is a serious lack of Subway Restaurants near where I work.  Okay, so there is one just a couple of miles down the road...but if you knew what the traffic was like on these roads around here you would understand why I don't want to go.  It would take me an hour to go get my lunch and come back.

Why do I want to go to Subway?  Because right now they have a LION KING PROMOTION!!!
Okay, so it's a kids meal.  And big deal, it's just a coupon off the DVD coming out soon.  BUT I WANT IT.
I'm a huge Lion King fan.  And they are giving away re-usable lunch bags (save the planet!) with every kids meal.  There are six total.  So now I feel like I need to eat six kids meals at Subway.  Normally I don't go to Subway, but I might have to go to get my reusable lunch bags.  Especially because yesterday I sprayed greasy taco juice all over my lunch bag and now it has orange spots.  :(  (hey, no slamming my taco lunch!  It was a taco SALAD.)

The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie (Sleeping Beauty is a close second!) and I just have to collect everything Lion King. Okay, so I don't have to...but I used to...and now that I have a baby, I feel like I have an excuse.  Zoe can love the Lion King right?

Who else is going to go see it in theatres in 3D?  Oooh! ooh!  me! me!
I should have known something was up when right before Zoe was born, Disney released some Lion King baby stuff.  It was too late for my baby shower unfortunately.  Otherwise Zoe would have a jungle-themed Lion King room instead of a forest/animal room.

I can't wait until she is old enough to say "Mama...I know you love the Lion King, but I don't!  I prefer...(insert whatever here)."

Sigh.

I do want to address one thing from yesterday's post.  Remby commented about fasting to reduce calorie intake.  What I was discussing was actually just that.  We humans fast every day!  Or we are supposed to anyway.  We fast every night from when we fall asleep until we wake up every morning and then have our....wait for it....breakFAST.  Breaking the fast.  That is what breakfast is supposed to be.  Now do you know why it's so important to eat breakfast?  Because you need to break the fast.  Now what if you didn't fast?  Did you go 8-12 hours between your last meal of the day and breakfast?  You really should.

So think about that tonight when you have that late night snack or after dinner dessert.  Or how late are you eating dinner anyway?  I was pleasantly surprised to come home to dinner cooking last night.  (My husband rocks!) So I got to eat early.  I try to eat 3/4 of all my calories before 4pm.   How about you?

Again...all of this is to remind ME.  This diet and exercise stuff I talk about works for ME.  You need to find out what works for YOU.

Now I know there are a lot of people reading my blog who are working on weight loss.  Please leave comments and encourage each other to keep it up.  Comment on something I said, especially if you disagree.  Tell us what works for you, let's keep each other encouraged as we all travel this looooong journey together and find what works best for us.

Is it lunchtime yet?  I'm hungry....always hungry!  agh!

Diet, exercise...blah blah blah

So I had decided that I was going to do p90x to get back into shape.  I also decided to start by doing it every other day in order to slowly break myself in.  Then stuff got in the way and I went to Vermont and forgot the DVD's at home.

So now I haven't done it in a week.  So yep, I fell off that bandwagon.  My new plan is to start again on Sunday.  I am going to (and I'm in!) my cousin's wedding this weekend and there is just too much to do between now and then for me to try again too soon.   Of course...if I have free time I will do some exercise.

Actually, I'll probably clean the house instead. :)

One problem that annoys me when trying to lose weight is that you have to EAT to lose weight.  It's very tempting to not eat, since if you don't eat the calories, they won't end up on your hips or butt.  The problem with that is that if you don't eat enough food, your body will just hold onto that fat for dear life.  When we don't eat, we send a message to the body that says "Famine!  There's no food!  Survival mode!".

The message we need to send is that there is plenty of food.  Plenty of HEALTHY food.  (junk food sends that same famine message to our brains because it isn't getting any healthy nutrients out of it, just empty calories for survival.)  So if you are joining me on this weight loss challenge, make sure you eat plenty of food.  NEVER skip breakfast and get plenty of healthy fats, protein and yes, some carbs too.  Don't skimp on the veggies and make sure you have fruits for dessert.

If you do decide to skip a meal, the only one you want to skip is your last meal of the day.  Is that dinner?  Or fourth meal?  Or is that ice cream after dinner?  What about that late night snack?  THAT is the only meal to skip.  If you can't sleep because your tummy is rumbling?  Try a glass of milk or a small piece of meat.

So why did I share all this advice with you?  Mostly to remind myself while I try to lose some weight.
Okay,  I want to lose a lot of weight.  I feel like I'm starting all over again.  Sigh.

Twilight!

I'm sorry if the title is misleading.  This isn't really anything new about the Twilight series.  The new movie is coming out soon though, sometime in November.

Today is a short post, and I meant to post this last week, but time got away from me.  Anthony and I were at the grocery store and we stopped by the bakery "clearance" section.  This is where they sell yesterday's bread at a discount.  Well they had a few other things and one of them was this Twilight cupcake thing.
I cracked up because it was obviously in the "clearance" section because someone at the bakery is not a Twilight fanatic.  Otherwise they wouldn't have made the glaring error.  Oh, wait, my readers aren't Twilight fanatics?  You don't see the mistake?  The mistake is the "Team Jacob" sign on the cake that has a picture of "Edward".  Oops.  I'm willing to bet some Mom came to the store to pick this up for their daughter's party.  (or their own I guess, didn't know I could get these cakes, I might get some for my next Twilight party!)

So into the clearance section it went for my amusement. :)

Looking back, I probably should have bought that...it looks yummy!

I should probably start planning my next Twilight party....lots to do!
