Thank You Friends

I would like to thank the multiple people who sent me a link to the Harry Potter movie trailer.   Without these folks looking out for me, I would have NO clue what is going on in the real world.

Thank you!

Dani Didn't Do It

I didn't get dressed today.  I just never found a good opportunity and my pj's were very comfy thank you very much.  I have made an effort to get dressed everyday.  Brush my hair, brush my teeth, etc.  But not today.

Today I brushed my teeth.  But I haven't brushed my hair.
I took my vitamins.   I did one load of laundry.  I played with the baby.

And oh yeah, I fed her and changed her and did loads of pumping of breast milk.

I guess I did a lot today.  It just *feels* like a lazy got nothing done kind of day because I am still in my pajamas.

Oops, I forgot to make the bed.  Hey wait, I'm in my pj's, the bed is unmade anyway...and baby is sleeping...NAP TIME!

Mamma Mia!

Today is a gorgeous day!

One of the things I had really been looking forward to during my maternity leave was going to be the gorgeous spring weather.  It's been cold, rainy and even snowy almost the entire time.  Apparently during my hospital stay there was even a big snow storm.

TODAY however, the weather is very warm, dare I say the 70's or higher?  The sun is shining, birds are chirping, bugs are buzzing and the flowers smell gorgeous.  So what are two gals to do in such weather?  Well, Dani Do It got right to work!

We are in warm weather clothes for a change (nice to finally use those short sleeve onesies!) and I even managed to find a few clothes that fit me.  We have ABBA's greatest hits playing and we have taken a few excursions outside for some Vitamin D.  I got some duct tape and I repaired the broken screen door in our sliders in the kitchen so we could open that door. I also opened up some windows in every room in the house.  This means later I will be killing bugs, but it's so worth it!  The air smells great.

We just finished up our lunch, Zoe got the good stuff (breast milk) and I am enjoying a PB&J with a Magic Hat #9.  I bet you didn't know that beer (specifically brewers yeast in the beer) can help with milk production.  WOO HOO!  I was very very very happy to have a beer.  Course, I can't have more than one a day, but STILL, BEER!  (and only the good stuff has the yeast in it, sweet!)

I hope everyone is having the same good weather we have here, and I hope that you all get outside today for some Vitamin D.

The Continuing Musical Education of my Baby

This evening we watched "Fight for Your Right (Revisited)" by the Beastie Boys on Hulu.  Anthony and I both like the Beastie Boys, it's one of the few music groups we agree on actually.   And when we heard about this video, we put it down on our to do list.  I'll admit, it came before getting the laundry done or cleaning the house.

So they created a video that shows what happens after the party on the "Fight for Your Right" video.  Zoe watched it with us.  Or at least she stared at the bright lights and colors on the computer monitor.  And I waved her hands around to the beat of the music.  (I was hoping to keep her awake so she would sleep such luck.)  I think tomorrow we will need to rock it out to the Beastie Boys Greatest Hits on my iPod in the car while we run errands. :)

After this, we will move on to Queen and maybe some Abba.  With all the amazing music out there, why listen to so called "kids" music?  Show tunes may have to be next week.  The Wicked soundtrack is pretty amazing.  :)

I do need to get out all the non-appropriate music soon though, before she starts picking up on all the naughty words.  Then again, just because she sings the songs, doesn't mean she knows what it says.

When I was around 10 years old, my dad had a cassette tape of Aerosmith's Permanent Vacation album.  To this day, this album is one of my all time favorite things to listen to.  I think around that same time we also had Madonna's True Blue album.  I knew every word to every song.  It wasn't until I was older that I realized what I was singing about with "Rag Doll" and "Papa Don't Preach".   In fact, with "Papa Don't Preach" my mom had to tell me what it was about.  When I was in my twenties.  Yep, I was convinced she wanted to "keep her baby" and that she was talking about her boyfriend, not an actual baby.

I hope Zoe stays as innocent as I did for as long as I did.  My parents did a good job with me, I hope I can do the same.

Baby Statistics

Just a quick note this morning to go over some stats from our guessing game for the baby's statistics.

The closest to get her birthday and time correct was my friend Katie.
4 People correctly guessed March 31st.

The closest to get her weight was my friend Sarah from college.  Coming in second was my Aunt Kathy.

For length, we had 8 people guess 20" and 5 people guess 19".  Since she was 19 and 3/4, everyone was pretty close there.

And the one person who came closest on all guesses?  My friend Sarah from college!

Thank you everyone who made guesses, it was a lot of fun for us to see what people were thinking. :)

Driving with Zoe

Today was my first actual day of "freedom".  And Zoe and I took full advantage, we went shopping!

It was definitely weird to get back in a car again.  It's been a month since I last drove and my parents had borrowed my vehicle, so I had to adjust the seat and mirrors and just try to figure out where I liked everything.

So where did we go on our shopping adventure?

We went to Target where we picked up that copy of the latest Harry Potter movie (yay!) and we went to Sam's Club where we picked up some milk and a few other necessary items.  I had to use the shopping carts with her car seat because I can't lift her stroller in and out of the car yet.  It's way too heavy for me to try with my current condition.  I'm looking forward to some of the exercise that I will get with lifting all the baby stuff though.

And this morning we rocked it out to some Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and Nirvana.  So don't worry folks, I am not brain-washing her with Britney Spears (not exactly the kind of role model my daughter needs anyway...)  And while we were in the car we listened to the CD I made for my wedding, which includes Elvis, Michael Buble, Beyonce, The Beatles, Peter Frampton, Alan Jackson and Weird Al.  So don't worry, she is getting a great mix of music to listen to.  Tomorrow we are going to listen to Muse and They Might Be Giants. :)

I'm Free!

I'm free!  Sort of.  My two weeks is up.
What does this mean?   It means that I am finally allowed to start doing things (slowly) again.  I had a lot of restrictions after my c-section and I can't wait to start getting active again.  It will be at least 6 more weeks before I can begin exercising or living "normally" again, but at least I can drive now!

I think it has been about a month since I have been on the road...everyone better watch out!  :)  New mom on the road!

So speaking of free.  I now have all sorts of things I need to do.  So just a short post today.  I still have no idea what is going on in the real world.  And I still need to get the latest Harry Potter movie.  SO to apologize for my lack of interesting posts, I will leave you with a picture!

This morning we are both rocking out to Britney Spears while Anthony visits a client.  I am VERY happy I pre-ordered the Femme Fatale CD before I went into the hospital!

Okay, now I KNOW I am not in the real world!  I just found out that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is available on DVD TODAY!!!

Today is What?

I heard that today was Friday.  Since I have no idea what day it is, what time it is, what month we are in or anything, I may need to get back to my computer more than 10 minutes a day.

Was Glee on this week?  Darn it.  I'll need to find that online.  I'm already a full season behind on two other shows I like to watch.

I also have no idea what's going in the world.   What happened in Libya?  The government almost shut down?

Yikes, I'm really out of touch.  And I need to email with a few people, I have no idea what's going on anymore!!

Anthony at Work

I want to point out the baby bottle next to the coffee mug.

Yep, life will never be the same. :)  (We are okay with that. :))

I Talk in My Sleep.

My mom has told me that when I was a child she would frequently come into my room when I was asleep and that I would have full conversations with her (even with my eyes open) and I would never remember these conversations.

I have occasionally woken myself up talking as well.  It's pretty funny.

My husband has never experienced this phenomenon.  He is a very heavy sleeper and wouldn't notice if the world tumbled down.  But today, he got to experience my "sleep talking".  I took a nap this afternoon and he got to wake me up.  Apparently, this is how the conversation went:

Anthony:  Hey babe, you should probably wake up.  The baby is in her swing.
Me:  Who's on my lap?
Anthony: Nobody.
Me:  Is the baby on my lap?
Anthony:  No, she is in the swing.
Me:  We have two babies.
Anthony:  No we don't, we have one baby.
Me:  No!  We have two babies, they are both bottle fed.

At this point he started laughing.  I got really mad at him for laughing at me.

Me:  Why are you laughing?  Do you want me to punch you in the face?
Anthony:  I am going to take a shower.

He walked out of the room at this point and a few minutes later I actually got up.  He then repeated this conversation to me at the dinner table while I was feeding the baby and in my hormonal state I laughed and cried at the same time.

I think I am glad we don't have two babies.  Anthony is not sure that I was asleep.  He said my eyes were open.  I told him to ask my mom about my sleep talking. :)

Food Cravings or not...

While I was pregnant all I wanted was chocolate, milk, and steak.  Occasionally hamburgers too.  And if I smelled garlic?   I thought something had died it smelled so bad to me.  I joked that I was like a vampire.  My husband cooked something with garlic in it early on in my pregnancy and I completely freaked out and ran around our place opening all the windows and lighting candles.

Yesterday my friend TC brought Anthony and I some lunch.  We decided to split a giant Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Egg for dessert.  I LOVE peanut butter cups.  I ate those all while pregnant.   Pregnant or not, I love me some Reeses.

We cut into the egg.  It looked really yummy.  It wasn't until after it was in my mouth that I realized I hadn't had any chocolate since I had the baby.

I can only imagine the expression on my face as I realized just how rich that egg was.  The chocolate was too much for me to handle.  It was so bad that for my next bite I just ate the peanut butter part.  That was awful too.  Too much!  So sweet!

I decided that the giant egg was completely unnecessary.  I believe it has "cured" me of my peanut butter cup cravings.  FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR.  Yep.  Don't believe me?  I immediately went into my freezer, dug out my stash of frozen peanut butter cups and gave them to my friend TC.  I GAVE AWAY my peanut butter cups.

I don't want to see another peanut butter cup until the pumpkins are out for Halloween.  Even then I might not want any.

Then last night for dinner Anthony made eggplant parmesan.  I walked into the kitchen, looked over at the toaster oven and said "oh wow, that smells good."  Guess what it was?  Garlic bread.

I ate two pieces. :)

...and I'm back! Sort of.

Hey everyone!

I have a moment this morning to get out a blog post!  yay!  And I thought that I would entertain you with some baby pictures. :)  We took a "family portrait" on our first night home (which was last Tuesday) and we took another last night, which happened to be my birthday!  Fun, cake, and ice cream for everyone!

Well, everyone except Zoe, but she didn't seem to care.

(click on the pictures to make them bigger)

So I guess that I am now a Mommy Blogger. :)  I have a feeling that a lot of my posts will be about the baby, what it's like to be a new mom and hopefully I can sprinkle in some humor and talk about other things as well.  But it may be tough.

I'll try to avoid posting anything that belongs on this website:

Although I am afraid I may have done that already with posts about my dog...

So what is new with me?  Well, obviously, the baby!  She was delivered via c-section which was almost an emergency and last minute.  We are both doing well and she got a perfect score on her first pediatrician appointment yesterday.  She is very strong and healthy and pink and I had no idea that my baby could smell so good.

I was very concerned about bonding with her.  I am not really a baby person.  I would read other mommy blogs about how they were in love with their baby when they hadn't given birth yet and all I could think was "How am I supposed to love this weird alien parasitic (sp?) creature inside of me?!"

So about a few hours after her birth, I was shocked to feel attachment, love and a yearning to see her.  They had taken her to the nursery for baths and tests and other things and all I wanted for the rest of that night was to see her again.  Due to the c-section, I couldn't move.  :(  As soon as she was back in my arms, then I relaxed.  This surprised me and it was a VERY pleasant surprise as I didn't know if I would bond with her right away.  I consider myself lucky that I did.  Not everyone does right away and I expected to be in that category.

Right now I am at home, recovering.  My parents are here helping out which is great because Anthony needs to make up the work he missed while I was in the hospital for a week.  I never knew what a c-section recovery would be like.  I didn't know I couldn't drive or do dishes or stand for long periods of time.  The only thing I knew was that I couldn't lift heavy objects and I was supposed to avoid stairs.  I didn't realize I wouldn't be able to bend over or lift something off of the ground.
I can't even pet Oscar!

During labor, I told Anthony that I was looking forward to being able to tie my shoes and sleep on my stomach.  It will still be a while (a few weeks) before I can.
I can't get back to kickboxing for 6-8 weeks.

But...if the baby is sleeping, I can blog!

And eventually I will try to reply to all the emails I have received, if I don't get to yours, please write me again!  I will try to respond.

For now, I will end the post so I can try to get ahead on the few things I can do.  I had no idea what being a mom was like.  Mom's are the toughest ladies on the planet!  Maybe in another two months I will be a pro!

I may post a few more pictures next week, but after that I will try to avoid pictures of my baby online.  I don't want her to grow up and realize I publicly broadcasted her life online. :)

Post tomorrow?

I am going to try really really hard to post tomorrow. :)

Babies keep you busy. :)  Plus I am in recovery because I did have a c-section.

I am incredibly thankful for my parents right now!

Can you believe that I spent 12 days in bed?  After 7 days at the hospital I was incredibly happy to take a nap in my bed today.  :)  I didn't see that coming.
