Last Thankful Post

I am writing my last Thankful Post today.

I am thankful for family in warm locations for me to visit. :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend...I'll probably be too busy to write...

Until next year!

See you then!

Dog Sitter

Today I am thankful to a friend of mine who will be watching Oscar for me for a few days very soon.  I know that Oscar is going to get a lot of attention and love while we are apart...probably more than he has had at home lately.

I know he is in good hands, and watching a dog is not an easy job.  I sincerely appreciate it. :)

Just in case I get too busy this weekend....MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hilarious Bloggers

Today I am thankful for bloggers, for giving me something new to read.  I do love reading blogs, especially funny ones.  I wish I was a bit funnier so that I could amuse my audience as well.

Today I read this:

And I laughed, and laughed and laughed.  Mostly because I have seen the Honey Badger video and thought it was pretty funny.  Want to see the Honey Badger video?

Honey Badger Video

It's pretty hilarious, there are swear words, so keep the volume on low if you don't want anyone to hear it.

Okay, so back to the blog post.  Basically, the end of the post states something about "using fear to control our children's behavior."  And, um, isn't this what ALL parents should be using??  Isn't this what I grew up with?  Yes, we wanted to please our parents and make them happy but weren't we also AFRAID of consequences?

Anyway, we won't be doing the "Elf on a Shelf" in our house.  First of all, it's commercialized and I'm mad that I didn't come up with it first. :)  Second of all, I want good behavior ALL year long.  Not just at Christmas.

Now I need to go find my Honey Badger Fairy.

And oh yeah, today I am thankful for bloggers.  To my blogger friends, you know who you are, THANK YOU. :)

Today I have had the songs from the movie Tangled stuck in my head.  I may need to get myself a copy of that soundtrack.  Zoe and I watched it together last night, she actually watched some of it.  For me, it was my second time watching it.

I think I can make it official.  Rapunzel is my new favorite Disney Princess.  My previous favorite was Sleeping Beauty (Or Aurora, or Briar Rose).

So today I am thankful for Disney (and other animators and suppliers of kid-entertainment) because I cannot wait to share this stuff with my little girl.  The toys, the stories, the movies, the theme parks...I can't wait to be a kid all over again.  I think that's the best part of having children. :)  So I guess I am thankful for children, because then I get to pretend to be a kid all over again.

Holiday Cards!

Today I am thankful for holiday cards.  Or Christmas cards.  Whichever floats your boat.

I LOVE getting Christmas cards in the mail.  Especially if they have pictures.  I don't even care if YOU are not in the picture.  Send me a picture of your kids, or your fur-kids!

Unfortunately, I don't get too many cards.  In fact, I send out almost twice as much as I receive.

BUT...much like Santa Claus, I have a list.  I have been keeping track of who I send cards to and who sends them to me for the past three years.  Here is my proposal.  Support the post office!  (my uncle works there!) and send me beautiful (photo) Christmas cards.  You are guaranteed to get one back.  But if you don't send me a may be added to my naughty list!

You might not get one this year, because I only ordered 25 of them.  BUT..if you send me something this year, you will be included on my list for next year!  And next year will be a family portrait!

So today I am thankful for Christmas cards.  I LOVE getting stuff in the mail (it's way more exciting than email, though I like emails too) and I love seeing the pictures or even just the fancy cards.

By the way, today is the LAST day to mail something and have guaranteed Christmas delivery.

Yesterday I was thankful for football!  My family enjoys watching this sport and it brings us together to watch our favorite team win. :)  Yep, we won, that does help us enjoy the game.  ;)

We also had some friends over and we made a whole bunch of junk food!  I'm pretty sure I gained three pounds in one day.  At least I feel like I did.  I would say that I will be "good" all week and make up for it, but I'll be honest, I now need to eat all the leftovers! :)

So today I am thankful that I have leftovers for the week so that I don't need to cook (haha, I'm funny...Anthony does all the cooking!) and that I don't need to go to the grocery store.  MMmmmm....chili! :)

Okay, I'll start dieting again next week.  I do get that Bodybugg back next week!

Thankful for my Childcare Provider

Today I am thankful for the woman who takes care of my baby while I go to work.  It isn't just her, her whole family helps.  Zoe loves to go to her house and I know she is in good hands!

Speaking of hands, I am also thankful because I am apparently TERRIBLE at trying to make Zoe's handprints for Christmas ornaments:

I don't know why, but this is the best picture I can upload.  Computer is acting funny.
Anyway, as you can see, my attempt at making Zoe's handprints are terrible.

Now compare, to an expert:

MUCH better. :)

But I am not just thankful for my childcare provider because she makes me arts and crafts with my baby, it's because she has helped us with raising our baby too.  If it weren't for her, I don't think Zoe would hold the bottle by herself.  And lately, we have finally gotten Zoe to drink some juice!

(We were going to avoid juice, but we can't, blah blah, I'll explain another time.  Don't worry, it's diluted with water.)

It's nerve wracking and stressful to find someone to watch your child while you are at work.  It's great when you find someone you like, can trust and also helps raise your child with you.

I'm just so thankful in general today.  Thankful for the good life that I have.  I am a very lucky and fortunate person.  I want to "pay it forward" and I would like you to do the same.

I am a believer in karma and what goes around comes around.  Today I am going to do a few things to help others out, not just in the Christmas and Holiday spirit, but because I am so thankful for the extraordinary life I lead.

Where did all of this come from?  From writing what I am thankful for the past few weeks.  It has really opened up my eyes to the very good life I am lucky to lead.  Instead of writing each and every little thing today, today I am thankful in general.  (I'll get back to specifics this weekend and next week!)

BUT...for today...please help me pay it forward.  If you haven't done any charitable giving yet this year, why not find a local charity that needs help.  I know today it was announced that in some states, they have not met their local need for Toys for Tots.  Have fun!  Go shopping, purchase some toys and make a kid's Christmas come true!  Try to check with your area to see what age range they need, a lot of young children and older children like teenagers get missed. :(

Do you know someone who needs a little help this year?  Maybe you can do something to help them out!

Some people may ask, what is the purpose of life?  Why am I here?  You don't have to be the President or a Celebrity or a Nobel Peace Prize winner to make a difference.  Sometimes, our only purpose to being here is to make someone else happy.  (and that in turn will make you happy!)  You never know how your smile at a stranger or a child may have changed their day.  Or how holding the door for someone may have changed someone's perspective.  Maybe your only purpose is to love someone.

So today...please pay it forward.  I want to spread all this good feeling I am having.

Enough philosophical stuff.  For all you slackers, today is free shipping day!  Lots of retailers participating!

Thankful for Slate?

I read a popular website called Slate.  I enjoy a lot of the articles and the biggest reason I enjoy them is because they don't always write about the popular opinion.  They aren't afraid to get all controversial on us.

So today I am thankful for this great article on why Scrooge is a great guy. :)

Did you know that my favorite holiday special is also The Grinch Who Stole Christmas?

You're a mean one...Mr. Grinch....

My husband can cook.

Lucky me, I have a husband who cooks.  He doesn't just make a sandwich, he is like my own personal chef!  (Now I just need a maid too...)

He makes a lot of food from scratch and he generally makes very healthy choices.  He likes to mix it up too, so I have tried a lot of things I never thought I would eat before.  So am I thankful he can cook?  You bet!

Today I am thankful that he made some veggies the other night.  Spinach, red pepper, mushrooms and I'm sure there's some other stuff.  Must be a spicy pepper too because it was spicy.  And I got to eat this with my lunch today.  So today I am thankful for my husband making such wonderful meals so that I could eat a lot of veggies today.

I'm pretty sure it's the butter, but normally I wouldn't eat mushrooms. :)  Mmmm, veggies with butter!

I went to Edaville Railroad with my sister and Zoe.  We had a WONDERFUL time.  You wouldn't think a baby could enjoy something like that, but she stared at all the lights in wonder and even enjoyed getting a jingle bell from Santa.

So yesterday I was thankful that I now have a baby and can get away with doing kid things that I have wanted to do for years anyway. :)

TODAY, I am thankful that there is a thing called the internet.  Where I get to share my thoughts with you and I get to share.....PICTURES!  I have updated Zoe's picture website.  Do you need the website?  Do you need the password?   Send me a message and I will get that information to you.  Wait, you don't know how to reach me?  Try someone you know, who might know me or know someone who knows me.  Are you a complete stranger?  Introduce yourself! :)

BGMC - Holiday Concert

Tonight I was thankful that Anthony and I are fortunate to know people who would like to babysit for us.  We got to go into the city to see a show and then we went out to dinner after.  We didn't plan on going out to dinner, but we were basically told to stay out late and enjoy our night.  So we did!  It was a date night!  And we hadn't had one since we went to see the Lion King two months ago, so it was VERY nice.

THANK YOU to our babysitters.  We saw a wonderful holiday concert and had a great dinner at a famous chinese restaurant.  We even got a Mai Tai for two with a souvenir glass.  And when we returned to pick up our baby, we were told to go out more often. :)  How lucky are we?

So tonight I am thankful for babysitters who love our baby like grandparents.  We even call them Grammie and Grampa anyway. :)

What show did we see?  We saw the Boston Gay Men's Chorus.  It was a GREAT show.  I highly recommend to go see it if you have the chance.  Only a few more dates left.  This hall had great seating, seriously, not a bad seat in the house, don't be afraid to buy the tickets in the back if that is all that is left.

You can buy tickets here:

And learn more about the chorus here:

I am not posting tomorrow because I want everyone to see this post and go buy tickets to this concert. :)

So what am I thankful for tomorrow?  A few things, but I will leave you with this.  I'm thankful that my friend TC FINALLY listened to me, auditioned for this chorus, and joined.  Because then I was able to get a wonderful date night with my husband and see a friend perform with a professional and amazing singing group.

More on Tuesday!

It's Late, but Today I felt like Santa.

Today I am thankful that throughout the past 5-6 years, Anthony and I have been very fortunate.  Neither one of us has lost our jobs, or had to worry about how the rent or mortgage was going to get paid.  We are also both lucky to work in jobs that we truly enjoy.

This fortunate situation for us, gives us the opportunity to give back and today we did that.  My mom's group "adopted" four children for Christmas this year, and last night we went shopping for them.  Today I dropped off our gifts to these children.  There were many people participating and I believe these four children will get everything they wished for and needed this year.  I made sure we filled in the "blank" spots on the list.  No one likes to buy the boring stuff like socks and underwear, but we did!  (I also bought a few toys, couldn't help myself.)

I might write more on this subject at a later date.  I have always tried to donate around the holidays, but why not year round?  And my feelings on helping others has definitely changed with becoming a mother.  More on this subject later.

My Baby is not a Picky Eater.

I am thankful that my baby will eat almost everything we give her.  She doesn't turn up her nose.  Well, maybe she does to the carrots I made her.  (she might take after her Aunt who doesn't like cooked carrots!)  I can't even list all of the foods that she will eat, because there are so many!

How lucky am I?  I hope she continues to be a foodie like her dad.  What are some "odd" things that she likes to eat? She eats olives.  And guacamole.  She has even had gazpacho.  (did I spell that right?)

And even Miso soup.

And she eats all the normal stuff too like fruits and veggies and pureed baby food, mum mums, puffs, etc.

A few weeks ago my dad gave her an animal cracker.  She LOVED that.

And apparently she even likes coffee:

I'm kidding!  I'm kidding!  The mug is empty!

Anthony took that picture playing around with a sketching app on his phone.  It does look like she is about to drink his coffee. :)  She is just playing with the mug, no coffee for the baby.  Have a good weekend everyone!

Online Shopping!

Today I am thankful for online shopping and free shipping.  It makes my Christmas shopping so much easier.

Short post today, I'll try to be better tomorrow. :)

Wordless Wednesday, Pictures of stuff I'm thankful for....

More pictures soon.  I'm thankful for my husband, my baby (and my new baby carrier!), our gorgeous little tree and my forgiving, totally patient dog.  He was testing out the pack and play for us.  I don't know if it's funny, sad, or just shows me two kids can fit in there....

I am thankful for dogs. :)

And other fuzzy creatures that comfort us humans.  I am thankful for my dog, who is soft and nice and well-behaved and smart and just all around a great dog.

And I wanted to share this article with you:

Weekend Stuffs

I am really not good at posting on the weekends. :)  I'm just not conditioned to thinking about posting on the weekend.  And I do try to stay away from the computer on weekends as well.

So what did we do this weekend?  Well, to start, on Saturday I was thankful that I got to spend the whole day with my husband and daughter.  We had pictures with Santa Claus and we cut down our tree.  A first for me, I had never cut my own tree before.  Well, technically Anthony cut down the tree, and Zoe and I watched and took pictures.  Pictures?  Yes!  There are pictures.  I'll share them online on Wednesday I think.  I want to get a little more decorating done and then I will be happy to show off.

Did Zoe cry when we went to see Santa Claus?  Yes she did.  I think it might have been the beard and glasses that threw her off.  She isn't used to seeing men with glasses and beards.  But we were visiting a really nice Santa and he was patient and kind.  He took the time to "make friends" with Zoe, and eventually she was comfortable.  So I think we got some great pictures of her crying and smiling.  We shall see.  I get those in about two weeks!

On Sunday I participated in a local group yard sale.  It was all Mama's from my Mom's group place.  I was thankful to meet some new mom's, maybe make some new friends and I managed to sell a few things too!  But mostly I was thankful to the mama who sold me a brand new, still in the box My Pal Violet at half the retail price!  I'm excited to have this toy for Zoe, as I have heard from so many other parents how much their children love this toy.

So what am I thankful for today?  That it is a nice balmy 58 degrees outside and during my lunch break I took an extra long walk!  That should help keep the weight off....especially with all the tempting candy at my desk...hehe.

Shallow thankful stuff today (and yesterday).

Well, these aren't really that shallow.  But I could choose better things to be thankful about, but this is what I came up with.

As I left work yesterday I realized I hadn't come up with anything yet and I hadn't posted about it.  However, as I got closer to my childcare provider's house to pick up Zoe, I realized I was thankful I got to pick her up and didn't have to drop her off.  I think dropping her off would just be so tough for me!  And how lucky am I that I get to pick her up after work and she is always so happy to see me?
I'm also thankful that it is dark at that time, and so on my way home I get to see everyone's gorgeous light displays.  The people in my area do not fool around when it comes to Christmas lights.

So what am I thankful for today?  That I own a CD player.  I know most people listen to music through their mp3 players or the radio or the computer, but I still like a good (old-fashioned???) cd player.  And SOME people don't have one!  (You know who you are!)

I do have all my holiday music imported into my iTunes library, however I still have the cd's as well.  And today, with my cd player, I'm listening to Vince Guaraldi Trio's Charlie Brown music.

And you can listen to Linus and Lucy (which Zoe used to kick like crazy inside of me when this song came on last year!) right here:
