One Year Ago Today: March 28th

One year ago today, I was just a few days from the biggest life changing event of my life.  I had no idea what I was in for.  I had a head cold so I took a nap in the afternoon.  I was excited for the new Britney Spears CD and wanted to know my reader's opinions on which format I should get her latest album.

Want to remember?  Read it here:
http://danidoit.blogspot.com/2011/03/not-much-new.html

I read this now...and I look very self-centered and I probably was.  Until we have children of our own, do we really ever need to put anyone's needs before our own?  I know a lot of people choose to do that and help others and take care of others....but most of us are pretty self-centered.  I know I was.

It's been a big change for me, the past year.  And I am slowly learning how to not focus on me so much, but it's still very hard.  I still have my "tantrums" and my mood swings.  I still pity-party about how my life has been affected and all the sacrifice/change I have had to make.  Me, me, me...

Maybe we should talk about you?  Feel free to leave in the comments something about YOU. :)

And please enjoy one of my favorite songs:

Motivational Monday - Goals

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope everyone is feeling motivated to get their goals accomplished this week.  I have a lot on my plate but I'm really looking forward to everything I have to do.

My weight loss is....stalled.  I was bound to hit a brick wall at some point.  I believe this is the exact same spot that I stalled in the last time I was trying to lose weight.  I'm hoping to finally get that treadmill (got a free one!) in my basement this week and I can break my plateau!

I'm still working on a name for my new website/business...please feel free to contribute ideas.  I want to start a computer support/questions website that is family-focused.  Where moms and dads can ask computer questions, especially items related to parental controls and the best computer for their child.  We will learn together as my daughter grows as well.

Lots to do this week....I need to clean the house and prepare for Zoe's first birthday party (whoa! been a year already?!).  I'm also going to be a vendor at a big event for NYR Organic.  Lots of projects at work right now too.

What are you goals for the week?  Are they written down?  Will you reach them?

I have been hungry all day today...that makes it so hard to lose weight!

Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk at the Zoo!

Hello everyone - a year ago I decided to join the CF Great Strides walk.  We did this for a number of reasons including the fact that Anthony's family is a genetic carrier for Cystic Fibrosis, our good friend's daughter was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis shortly after her birth, and I wanted to teach Zoe about giving back.

We will be participating in this every year until CF stands for Cure Found!

We will be joining team Viver's Givers at the zoo, here are a few pictures of Zoe last year at the zoo:

So who wants to see pictures of Zoe THIS year at the zoo?  If we reach our goal, I promise to share pictures of Zoe at the zoo this year.  And if the other mama's agree, I may include pictures of her with her friends too!

Want to learn more about Vivien?  She is the reason we are participating and she is the adorable daughter of our friends. You can visit her mom's page here:
http://www.cff.org/great_strides/ViversGivers

Want to donate so that we can reach our goal?  We have decided to raise our goal from last year ($500) to $1000.  If we reach that goal...you will get pictures of Zoe on the blog.  :)
Here is our page:

Want to purchase something to help out?  I'm an Independent Consultant for NYR Organics.  I have decided that every penny I would make in profits (normally 25% of sales) during the month of April will go towards our fund for the walk.

One Year Ago Today: March 21st

One year ago today....I was officially put on bed rest (already been on bed rest for a few days, but it was made official on the 21st) and I was officially on maternity leave from work.

http://danidoit.blogspot.com/2011/03/bed-rest-and-no-longer-working.html

In this post I explained what was going on with the baby and the pregnancy...and did I complain about being bored?!  Wow...I sort of remember what that feels like but it seems like a lifetime ago.  I feel like I will never be bored again.  Who has time to be bored?  Who could be bored while being entertained by the cutest, funniest, whiniest, neediest (are these words?) and most beautiful thing you have ever seen?

There is no room for boredom when you have children.  That is one thing I have learned.  I have learned many lessons in the past year.  I knew my life would change, but I had no idea how much.  I knew I wanted to be a better example for my daughter, but I had no idea how much meaning that would mean to me.

As we approach my daughter's first birthday, I will continue reflecting on this time last year and some things I have learned.  For example, who knew last year at this time that I would no longer want to play the game Angry Birds because I was sick of playing it while on bed rest! haha!

And....coming soon...my shameless plugging to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides walk.  We will be participating again this year, links coming soon with updated pictures of Vivien and Zoe too!  Maybe Zoe will be walking by the time we reach our walk in May.

How am I?

I'm doing okay.  I have had a lot going on lately.

How did I do with my goals that week?  Well, I didn't lose 2 pounds, but my weight is still going down.  I'm down a total of 9 pounds now, yay!

Check out this article for some GREAT info on losing weight:
http://gma.yahoo.com/13-things-diet-experts-wont-tell-weight-loss-170358888--abc-news.html

Did I find a treadmill?  No, I didn't, but I found one this week!  yay!  Hopefully I will have it by the end of the week.  And it was FREE!  Thank you friends!

Did I name my side business?  Nope, I still didn't come up with anything better than Dani Compute It.
But I'm still thinking about it.

Lots to do in the meantime.  Like clean the house, do the laundry, play with baby, play with dog.  And oh yeah, exercise and lose weight and hug my husband.  So much to do...so little time...

Hey, Zoe's first birthday fast approaches!  Tomorrow I will re-cap where I was this time last year. :)

Where did I go?

Where have I been?  I had a tougher than normal week last week.

I'm prepping to bring you better blog posts.  Please have patience.  I will try to make up for it if I can this week.

In the meantime, enjoy this cute video:

Motivational Monday - Perspective

Welcome back to another Motivational Monday!

I definitely had a case of the "Mondays" this morning.  I seriously considered calling out sick to work.  I unfortunately caught Anthony's cold that he had all last week...and so has Zoe.  So we were all sick this past weekend.  A total bummer because we missed a camping expo that I really wanted to check out.  So I was tempted to call out.  I need more sleep (the time change didn't help) and getting some laundry done and staying in bed just sounded nice.  Especially if Zoe was brought to daycare.  A real day off.

However, a little perspective can really change things.  Last week I read on another person's blog about how crappy her life seemed to be going until she remembered what was going on with a friend.  And that is the theme of today's post.  Courtesy of Dictionary.com:

PERSPECTIVE - 1. a way of regarding situations, facts, etc, and judging their relative importance

On top of the time change and the colds we all had, Zoe's first tooth was coming through.  Poor thing is in some pain and is pretty cranky.  Which means she whines and cries a little bit.  Which is really nothing compared to most kids.  But because my child is normally so easy and laid-back, to me it was just HORRIBLE.  And then I received a phone call from a friend.  Poor mama and her baby...they had an accident and everyone is okay, but her daughter (and she herself!) were going through SO much more than me.  Really.  I could suck it up and deal with Zoe's extra rosy cheeks while she is teething.  So there is that whole perspective thing coming in and giving me a kick in the butt.

Instead of feeling the Monday blahs today, let's be thankful for Mondays.  It means that we have to go to work, which means we have a job.  It's another day we get to spend with our loved ones.  And it's another day to set some new goals for the week.

Remember last weeks goals?  I didn't 100% achieve them, but I gave it my best.  I will be making new goals this week.  Stay tuned this week for more posts to give perspective.  If anyone has anything they would like me to write about...or if they would like to be a guest blogger...please feel free to contact me to give me YOUR perspective.  Happy Monday everyone!

Getting Busy.

My parents were in town this past week, they went to a wedding last Saturday. We had a great time visiting and I think they had a lot of fun playing with Zoe. Over the weekend, while they were away, I watched my mom's dog for them.

One of the best things about my mom's dog is that he knows all the same commands as my dog.  One of the worst things about my mom's dog is that he knows the commands, but he doesn't always choose to do them.

I'll relate to you a story from our weekend.

Poor Dunkin, he is not used to the cold, frigid weather of the north.  This dog lives in constant summer, which can have cold moments, but does not usually involve a foot of snow. :)  Dunkin has never had to deal with going to the bathroom in a foot of snow.  He has not had to stand in the freezing cold with bare paws on the freezing snow with someone telling him to "get busy!" for about 20 minutes.

I wasn't too happy about standing out there in the freezing cold either.  And after you have said "get busy!" to a dog about 30-40 times, you realize you sound really stupid saying it.  I believe I picked up the phrase in one of my dog training books when I first got Oscar.  So that's Oscar's phrase and he is usually really good about going once you give him that phrase, especially before a long road trip.

So it's night, it's dark.  And it's really cold out.  I take the dogs out and Oscar does his normal thing, he runs around and finds a spot.  Once he is done he tends to run around and roll in the snow.  Picture a pig in the mud, that's Oscar in the snow.  Dunkin on the other hand, just looks at me with an expression that clearly says "I'm really cold, can I go back inside please."  In response to this expression, I just keep saying "get busy! get busy!".

And then I notice Oscar.  Everytime I said "get busy!" he would run and find a new spot to pee in. After about his fourth pee he came over to me very proud of himself for following instructions.  I gave Oscar a pat on the head and told Dunkin again to "get busy!".  Oscar gives me this look like "again?" and runs back into the snow where he tries with all his might to pee some more.  So the whole time I am standing out there freezing, Dunkin is shivering and Oscar is running around peeing on everything he can, while I look like an idiot shouting at a 7 pound Maltese to get busy already!

He refused to go.  I took him inside.  He has a pee pad thingy.  (this is a whole other story...Dunkin doesn't HAVE to go outside to go to the bathroom at his house, which is why I am convinced that he refused to go at my house.  Oh wait, he did go at my house.  Just INSIDE and not OUTSIDE.)  :)  (hi mom!)

So I figured he would use the pee pad thing.  He didn't.  I tried taking him out a few hours later to try again. He still refused to go.  This time I left Oscar inside so he wouldn't feel pressured to pee on every tree in the yard.  I take Dunkin back in.  I place him on the pee pad.  I instruct him to "get busy" on the pee pad.  Nope, he still refused.

I gave up, put him in his crate for the night, and went to bed.  In the morning, I took him out again and he finally went.  A really long pee.  And when my parents came back to get him?  Of course he peed for them just fine on command.

And here I thought I was a dog whisperer.  Guess I still need to learn.

Just be careful using the words "get busy" around my house.  It means something else to Oscar.  ;)

Motivational Monday

Anyone out there love Mondays?  Anyone?

Two people on facebook this morning (I know, I know, I'm addicted to that mom's group and now I have new mom friends now and....stupid....grumble...facebook, sucked me in.).

Okay, let me start over.  Two people on facebook posted this morning "oh Monday".  I feel their pain, Mondays are tough and Mondays usually make you wish for longer weekends.  But instead of letting Mondays get me down, I am going to use them to keep me motivated.

How?  I am going to start a regular feature on my blog called "Motivational Mondays".  I am inspired by Alarm Clock War's "Remodel Mondays" and other blogs that do Wordless Wednesday.  Every Monday I am going to write about motivational topics or an inspiring quote or what I plan on doing that week.  I think that I will use Mondays as my kick-off to a great week of accomplishing things.  I tend to use Sunday evening to make a mental list of what I need to do anyway.

The other reason I got this idea was because I wrote a few emails to my friends doing the weight loss bet with me this morning.  I sent them pictures of my star chart:
And I recapped our goals and encouraged one friend not doing so well...that they can do this.  They HAVE this, I know it.  I want us to reach our goals.  Sure, it would be nice to win some money and have bragging rights of being a two-time winner. (hehehe....TC, game is ON!) But I want to celebrate with my friends when we reach our goals.  The bet is two-sided.  It's a bet with competition to keep us going, but it is also supportive.  We all want to win.

So what are my goals this week?  What do I want to accomplish?
1. I would like to lose 2 more pounds this week.
2. I would like to find a used (cheap) treadmill this week.
3. I would like to come up with some names for a possible side business of computer repair and social media assistance for small local businesses.

Scratch that, instead:
1. I WILL lose 2 pounds this week.
2. I will search for a treadmill this week.
3. I will write down name ideas for the new business.

Too bad I can't just use Dani Compute It.  But that sounds kind of nerdy and weird.  Not very professional.

Anyone else have goals for this week?  Right them down, get them DONE!  You can do it!
I'm a big fan of To Do lists, can you tell?  Must have been all those chore charts from growing up...
Thanks Mom!
