Wow - where did I go?
I was supposed to blog about more books that I have been reading and I must have gotten distracted last week. That whole "real life" thing must have gotten in the way.
The next book I wanted to write about is Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. I became interested in this book after I saw a news article that described the movie based upon the book as "Twilight with Zombies". And since I am obsessed with Twilight, I figured I should check it out.
Even though zombies scare me. Seriously, I had nightmares for three nights after watching the movie "Zombieland" and that movie is a COMEDY.
So I watched the trailer for the movie and it looked....funny. And was maybe even a romance. And well, being female, I naturally love most romantic comedies. But a zombie romantic comedy?
I let my husband know that a Valentine's date to see Warm Bodies the movie was a good idea.
He didn't agree. And I haven't seen it yet. He has no interest even though I told him it was likely going to be the ONLY zombie movie I would ever watch.
I figured my chances of seeing this movie were slim. Being parents with no babysitters, going to the movies is really a rare treat. I decided instead, to get the book.
I finished the book in two days, I couldn't put it down. I LOVED it.
And now I want to see the movie even more than I did before.
I never really thought about life from the zombies point of view. You do have to feel some sympathy for the monsters that don't want to be monsters. And zombies are usually portrayed as having no thoughts or feeling. It was an interesting read...to follow along on the journey as a zombie falls in love with a human girl.
I'm looking forward to reading more from this author. I liked his explanation for the zombie virus as well. He didn't go into it in plain detail, but he alluded to some reasons towards the end of the story.
On the subject of zombies, movies, and books, I recently saw a trailer for another movie coming out, World War Z. I will NOT be seeing that movie. I'm pretty convinced I'll have nightmares for a very long time. If you aren't sure what movie I am talking about, it looks like it stars Brad Pitt.
I did try reading that book last September. I tried really hard to get into it because it was so well-recommended. I got to a part where a mom is saving her kids from zombies and I couldn't read it anymore. And I did have nightmares.
So in conclusion, I should probably just stay away from all of this zombie stuff anyway. Must find a book about a safe happy ending to read tonight... I hate it when I can't sleep.
